In part one, we talked about how we need to measure God (His works of old) and see His splendour, which in return will encourage us and strengthen our faith for what we are believing next.
Today I’d like us to know another way we need to apply the measuring rod. In my current African setting, there is a tendency to compare ourselves against the other relatives in the family.
We must be as educated as so and so. We must be as rich as the other uncle. And though this inspires the rest of the family to be better, it is a short sighting.
I’ve come to the realization that even if these relatives are rich, in another circle, their wealth doesn’t count. It is one thing being the richest among the poorest. It’s another being the richest among the richest.
How then should we measure ourselves? How should we measure how rich we should be? How should we measure how far we have to go? How should we determine how much we should build? Some people build just to dismiss that relative off the first position as one with the biggest house! Once that status is achieved the lad starts boasting!
We must measure ourselves against God’s word! How rich has He said we must be? His word says we are blessed to lend to many nations. A nation is not just a school. We are talking lending to governments here! Nations need billions of dollars to run! How can you compare this to a mere uncle’s minute wealth!
If we are lending food to World Food Program, do 10 acres worth of it suffice? Nuh! We are talking squares and squares of thousands of miles here!
God’s word, as I’ve said before is the standard for us. And so we have to let slip these naive comparisons. And measure ourselves against His ordinances.
The world is advocating for free will and for men to do whatever they will. But that leads to sin and decay. The psalmist asks, how can a young man keep his way pure? Then he answers, by paying heed to God’s word.
This is a measuring rod of sorts — for purity. And His word goes on and on tackling various topics; even marriage.
So as you measure who must teach your children, God’s word it is. As you measure how to treat your husband, God’s word it is. As you measure the requirements for a good spouse, God’s word will sort you. As you measure how to treat your parents, God’s word will provide the dimensions of how far you must go to honor them.
As you set goals, set them according to His word. As you dream, dream as big as He says you can. If He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all you can ask or think or desire or pray, then on top of that wild farfetched dream, know He can do far far much more!
I commend you to God’s word as your measuring rod for life. For He Himself is the author of your life! And if He is limitless, if He is exceedingly broad (Psalm 119:96) for He is His word (John 1:1), then He seems to be saying, ‘There are no limits to how big or vast you can dream. I have not put any fences to limit you, and so, do not erect them either, nor let others do! No cap.’
Don’t let your background limit you. Don’t let your age, your color, your tribe, your nationality, your education, your family limit you! SOAR!
I’ve measured God friends, and I have found that He is immeasurable! And so, if He dwells in you, if He thinks in you, if He works miracles in you, if He speaks in you, it all must come with the characteristic of immeasurability — and omnipotence!
O the magnitude of power!
O the splendor!
O the honor of being one with Him! It makes you and I gods!
This revelation has undone me!
He who resides in God and God in him, is a god!
O God! O God! My thoughts are immeasurable as the sand! You think in me! The power to heal through me can’t be exhausted! You heal in me! There’s no end or limit to how rich I can be! I am immeasurable! I am immeasurable!
