Redefining ‘Great Works’

John 14:12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

When I was younger, I used to think great works were only raising the dead, healing the sick, making arms and teeth grow — but my eyes were opened to the unseen;

Things like unforgiveness can limit someone from transmitting God’s power from their spirits to their physical world. Praying for men casting lots against you is a great work. Forgiving someone who wrongs you without you wronging them is a great work.

Buying your wife from the brothel three times after her committing to prostitution is a great work! Getting lashed and stoned at for a thing you previously despised — and getting up, walking away without desire for revenge is a great work!

Your master saying to you ‘Satan, get behind me,’ and you not getting offended or severing ties with him is a great work! Having a choice to either go with the easier path — your way, or choosing to go the harder way — the right and inevitable way, is a great work! I mean, when the cup of suffering has not been taken away from you!

Building a boat — something that never existed ever since time began, and telling people it would rain from above — something that has never happened either, and believing that God talked to you, in that generation was a great work demonstrated by Noah!

Believing God for a child not for one year or five or ten or twenty but more — without wavering but trusting that He is faithful who promised was a great work by Abraham!

Preaching without sound systems by Jesus to thousands was another great work!

Let us not overlook the things God is doing in our lives, thinking that what we haven’t attained yet are the greater works! What you are doing now is a work that was impossible to many before! May you notice it and praise God! May He keep you diligent at it! For when the list of great works years from now is pulled out, you will be amazed at how many times you are referred to!

The Bible declares that God has in store for us what no eye has seen nor ear heard! What if what you are already doing qualifies! I am not hindering you from dreaming bigger. I am cautioning us not to be like Jacob: where by God was in a place and He didn’t know! Where God is doing what no mind has imagined in you but you do not know it!

Jesus said greater works than He did we do! God help us see these works, and celebrate each of them, even as you do much much more; as we teach your children the fear of the Lord, and demonstrate your power in all the earth. For surely, you are not only still moving but have also moved amongst us! We see it! The world sees it! And they are in awe of you.

Not only do men come to you! The little hills skip as well. The mountains worship! The earth is indeed filled with your glory! And no one shall escape your sovereignty!
