While many countries made it to the U.S to participate in the sport, countries like mine never stood a chance. Ugandans only wanted to watch and be aware of the proceedings. I know some people who had bought tickets to go watch the World Cup but due to the Ebola constraints and restrictions, they could not fly.
On the other side of the spectrum, the famous Shakira had been seeking opening acts to dance with at the finals’ half time performance. We have the Ghetto Kids, a collection of children gotten off the streets due to orphanhood — who dance for a living, here in Uganda. They had even made it to the famous Britain Has Got Talent finals some time back.
Shakira settled for them, and a bunch of them appeared in her 2026 World Cup Theme song Dai Dai.
What astonishes me in the whole story is that even if we weren’t on the pitch with the ball, we were there with the dance moves. The whole world was watching. The kids made news from the official song video to the finals’ half time performance. Uganda literally was at the finals while many other country players had returned to their respective homes. Those are headlines!
God gives visibility in many more ways than we can imagine. David was despised by his very own kindred, but God brought visibility to him in a way he had never dreamt of. Joseph’s story is the same, but see how God lifted him, not only giving him visibility and power over his family, but in the whole world!
