Expressions

A journal entry, 12th August.

So, I am still trapped from a moment that didn’t give me a warning from last Saturday! My highlight from the Phaneroo 12th Anniversary was this moment here! I had never heard of the man Yinka Okeleye before until Sunmisola Agbebi’s AMIOLUWA.

At the end of the song, she mentioned it was her husband. He was announced to come and minister at the anniversary a few weeks prior. All I was familiar with was Sunmi

Come 5pm-ish, Mr Oga stepped onto the stage. I go like ‘Ah, wetin be dis? Na what dey this one carry?’ The man ministered to God like there was no one watching. I couldn’t close my eyes. Sometimes we like being pretty in the presence. But the amount of reckless abandon I saw — the undignity, I didn’t leave the same!

The man knelt, sat, cried, sobbed, wailed, sang, knelt, lied, bowed, prostrated, even groaned with groanings that can’t be uttered.

I remembered how many times I held the Spirit back from expressing Himself in me, because I was mindful of my environment — or who was watching. ‘EXPRESS yourself before God!’ That’s what Yinka left me with that day — even without him directly sating it to me.

For women, this sometimes comes easy. But seeing a man do it! Na big wow-o.

I’d thought God had broken me enough already. I thought I was already vulnerable! But there’s another level yet. Men are always told to box it in; ‘how can you cry in public?’ Even when many got slain publicly, I always begged God to be gentle with me not to ‘embarrass’ me. O but I shall grieve him no longer.

This is not for the pharisees who want to show off in public. It is for the lovers of God, who resist the urge to express a certain impulse they feel the Spirit nudging them to do. Your obedience is the thing that will so minister unto Him and touch His heart.

I kept wanting to post this, but finding no time. And today when Ruach convicted me to post this, when I opened X, guess whose birthday I discover it was! There isn’t a better day to thank and honor you sir. Happiest birthday! May God show you the paths that no fowl knoweth, no ears have heard, nor vulture’s eyes have seen (Job 28:7) this new year. Thank you for the ministry & thank you Ap. G for inviting such minstrels.

The end
