Dating Tip From Song Of Solomon

Song of Solomon 1‬:‭7‬ ‭Tell me, my love, where are you leading your flock today? Where will you rest your sheep at noon? For why should I wander like a prostitute among your friends and their flocks? (NLT)

Following my previous heartbreak, I tried to move on. An opportunity presented itself, and so I attempted. The girl always showed up at the times I least expected her. And she was sweet; so sweet.

She seemed to know some info about me, but whenever I flipped the mirror her end, I’d see no reflection. Yes, we’d talk about me, but every time I tried to change the conversation, it led to a dead end.

She became a mystery to me. Even my texts were left hanging. In the theme scripture, the woman is asking her betrothed or beloved where he takes his flocks; where he’ll make them rest at noon. This is equivalent to finding out what the person you are interested in does, and where he or she does it from. (By that, I mean occupation-wise)

In verse 8, the man answered. The answer seems vague to us, but in their context, she must have known the place. He said ‘If you don’t know, O most beautiful woman, follow the trail of my flock, and graze your young goats by the shepherds’ tents.’

The fact that he mentions ‘she follows the trail of his flocks’ means she saw them go, but never saw the destination. Perhaps he had servants as well, and he was already ahead. The shepherds’ tent must have been where they all gathered for lunch perhaps, and (to me) it seemed like an exact location for her own information.

Many people aren’t honest today about their work, or workplaces or even where they stay. Some don’t want to be associated to low suburbs, and so they lie or keep quiet when their ‘partner’ asks.

I am not saying one has to take the person to where they stay. Just having an idea by the other party sorts of helps one to get to know them a little more or feel like they know them. In Bugolobi, I have a big cousin and her family there. Every time I pass that place (or I’m in that area), I think of them. If I am with a friend, I might mention it. I think many feel the same way whenever they pass an area where they know someone resides.

Just knowing people’s addresses helps fortify a bond you have with them … me thinks.

Whenever I tried to get such data from the girl, she never ‘let her guard down.’ I felt something could be wrong. I was afraid of my heart going through everything again. And so I drew back, and stopped pursuing. Maybe she too had had a heartbreak earlier. I don’t know.

I just stopped pursuing!
