As I continued to meditate on Psalm 118:24, another thing stood out for me. The reason we are given to rejoice was God-dependent and not human-dependent or circumstance-dependent.
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it!
It is not the day your husband’s made! It’s not the day the devil’s made! It’s not the day your boss has made! It’s not the day your lecturer has made! It’s not the day your enemy has made! It’s not the day your crush has made! It’s not the day your ex has made!
So our joy shouldn’t be dependent in any of those examples! You shouldn’t be timid, ready to rejoice only if your lecturer is happy with you! They have no power to make days and nights! You found favor in the sight of He who has that power!
If the examples mentioned had such power, then once they stopped liking you, you’d not see any other day! And many of you have seen many days after you had harsh disagreements with some people. I’m not talking about those you have reconciled with! I’m talking about those who acted like you without them would be your end!
Ask them if they have power to give breath! If not, then you’re gonna be just fine.
Some of you were sacked only because some people conspired against you out of jealousy! But you’d be getting into even better positions! Potiphar’s wife thought she’d end Joseph’s days! But the maker of Heaven and earth was on His side!
A little while in prison didn’t mean His end! For better days were ahead, and God Himself lifted him out from the prison to the palace; from a slave to a superior! And now he was way more powerful (to infinity) than his former mistress!
This is what I’m talking about! That even if the first king favored Daniel, it was only a matter of time before he died; just like it was for Israel when a new pharaoh was oblivious of Joseph who saved his ancestors once upon a time!
If another man’s days are up, and yours continue, you had better been in favor with one whose days never end! He’ll raise another king to be a conduit of favor over you! This was Daniel’s story for close to five regimes! It can be yours too!
When the men were evil in Noah’s days, the one with the power to make days chose to discontinue the days of everyone evil. Noah and his sons on the other hand had more to them! And they were able to refill the earth!
When Lazarus had died — when sickness had stamped the mallet in the court of life declaring the end for Lazarus, God the son came. Four days had passed for the living. Lazarus’ count had ended long ago. It’d been ‘time up’ & game over for him — 96 hours now.
Suddenly, he had someone calling him. What had been in the jurisdiction of death was immediately changed to the jurisdiction of sleep! Ah this God! He dey do wonder-ooooo (read that again in Pidgin English)
The actual visions of either hell or heaven he had witnessed immediately evolved to mere dreams!
Lazarus then slithered and hoped out, the only dead thing on him being embalmment linen for corpses! The Beginning and End had just restored the batteries to his days’ clock. And it ticked again! And he lived again! And he ate again! And he danced again!
Next time disease or accidents try to have power over your days, remind them in whose hands the power is!
I pray that you understand then what it means to rejoice when you see a new day! It’s only because the maker of all that was, and is, and is to come — has smiled on you! So don’t you dare lay to waste the gift of any day you receive!

And if Jesus lives in you: the giver of more days (as He did for Lazarus), you can command your days as well! Nothing can take you out before you live a full life! And if you wish to leave for Heaven, that is still possible because Jesus has shared the power to either subtract or add days with you! (1 Cor 6:17)
No wonder Paul said he was torn betwixt staying on earth and going to heaven. But for the sake of those he ministered to, he chose to stay! (Phil 1:23)
