The Psalmist says, and continues to add “we will rejoice and be glad in it!”
Last Monday’s morning, I woke up tired. Dizziness tried to rule me. And I was tempted to get back to bed, and complain about this and that!
O but this is the day the Lord has made — the Spirit yelled in me — rejoice and be glad!
In my meditations, I reckoned that rejoicing is as a result of the Lord’s making of a new day! Not necessarily because all is going well, or the boss is on your side, or the fees has been paid! But because God has made a new day and you are alive in it!
In other words, if we find ourselves not rejoicing in any day, fronting our miseries instead of His advantage, we are living outside His will! Yesterday I talked about Psalm 16:11, which states that God will show us the path of life. If the path dictates that you should rejoice in the new day, then it is indicating what you must do.
If we do otherwise, we are choosing the path of death! It will not literally mean you will die, but you will rob the day of its joy. You could kill the purpose of that day simply by choosing to be anxious first thing from before the dawn wakes!
Just as the Bible says ‘Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise,’ this equates to some sort of protocol as well! — Some sort of password.
Many of us only notice it’s already evening, and we haven’t brought in the sheaves or the rich harvest of that day, because we were locked out of the system having forgotten the password … and we all know how it sucks, being locked out of our emails, or important accounts because we have misplaced the passwords.
Sadly, many of us are reluctant to restore or find the passwords. A few just wait it out and generate passwords from the account proprietors. Others prefer making new accounts, which may not work in this condition. You can’t waste a Monday and put in an application for another Monday!
If you know how tiring the process of attaining a new password is, you always ensure not to be complacent about it; memorizing it so diligently, to have smooth sailing the next entry.
We must then embrace this ‘rejoicing into a new day’. It is an expression of our gratitude — the same gratitude we need to enter God’s gates. By default, we bring our days into God’s presence when we intentionally rejoice about them! In due process, we find Him guiding us through. We find ourselves not offended by our bosses, and remaining at peace when our workmates step on our toes!
This is because we would have unlocked the perfect peace the Lord promised when we keep our minds on Him. (Isa 26:3) The gladdening of ourselves in the new day (because He made it) would have (in hindsight) meant that we began our day by yielding our minds to Him, obeying what He said of us! If we do not, we just persevere through the day, looking forward to close of business! Looking forward to the weekend!
And I think many must be agitated of Mondays because of unprecedented horrors to and at work; but if they’d realize God has made that day and placed them in it just as He made the garden of Eden, and placed Adam in it, they’d — we’d — grasp that it has a role to play in the direction of our purpose.
Just as Eden was where Adam’s purpose was to play out, this Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday — whatever day it is, must have something to do with your overall purpose on earth!
Perhaps it’s the day you’ll help the destiny of another man. Perhaps it’s the day the woman who has been bleeding for 12 years will encounter Jesus. Perhaps it’s the day Samuel will visit David’s household and anoint him King!
It could be the day you; discover that revelation which will your greatest turning point in life! Or download the idea that’s equivalent to Google or Amazon.
Remember His word didn’t say ‘this is the day the Lord has made, we will be anxious about it, or complain in it.’ Some Israelites did this and experienced death quickly. The hack indeed, to spun all gold from a day is to rejoice firstly! For if God indeed made it, and placed you in it, then surely, there’s so much in store for you in it!
You may not be married yet! You may not have that car yet! You may not have the promotion yet! But those should not dictate the rejoicing. It’s a simpler reason, which is independent of all these.
I think that’s why ‘the poor’ cry in a new day! It is another day for them to suffer. While the rich man will rejoice; knowing it’s another opportunity for him to grow his wealth. Both these have one thing in common: both have received a new day.
We kill this advantage by comparing the differences between ourselves. If God hated one class, He would not have given them a new day! But allowing a new day for both means the expression of His new mercies, and love, and advocation for better life for all, the same way He sent His son to die — not only for the rich, but for the entire world.
I do pray you’ll choose life at the start of your every day by choosing to be glad!
