The God That Warns

Knowing that God is all-knowing, places you in a demanding position. Last year when my brother passed, I, of course out of frustration, asked God why He didn’t warn me — why He didn’t warn us!

Lo and behold, I got to know that my aunt had a dream the Monday he was being taken to rehab that hinted at death. I as well had one that Wednesday, before he died Thursday night. I can clearly say I misinterpreted the dream: two men dressed in white were dragging him from the dining, through a sitting room to the main door. They were dressed like nurses. I didn’t know he was real exiting!

This can be a danger: being joined to the Lord in one spirit — the God who knows everything. He told Abraham what would happen to his descendants. Even if back then He wasn’t residing in man yet, some things are so hard for Him to keep secret from you.

God can speak through dreams, riddles, or clearly as with Moses — face to face. He spoke to Joseph warning him of Herod attempting to kill baby Jesus. He warned the Magi of not using the same route to return the news to Herod.

What is the advantage of His warning you may ask.

His word says His people perish because of a lack of knowledge. His warnings are a type of knowledge — a kind of knowing. This will keep us from perishing! Nothing is hidden from Him. (Heb 4:13) Even darkness is as light to Him.

The knowing will preserve us. Psalm 121 testifies of God preserving us from all evil — preserving our coming in and going out. There is a reason why He doesn’t sleep nor slumber.

Yet while we sleep off, if any danger arises, He warns us of it. Psalm 91:10 states that no evil shall befall us, nor evil come near our dwelling. Sometimes us knowing these warnings manifest the promises stated above.

As mentioned from the onset, there is no doubt that He warns. The rest of the equation is our responsibility, starting from our hearing. This is when Isaiah 50, comes in.

We must have a learned ear, to pick His voice amidst the noises; to separate His voice from our very own. We must as well obey whatever He asks us to do. If He told the wise men not to return by the same way they came, and they brushed it off, we are not sure if they would have left Bethlehem alive.

If Joseph didn’t take Jesus away, we could have lost Him way before His actual purpose was fulfilled.

Warnings are usually bad signs; and the wisdom to avert their end is much crucial. The knowledge of it isn’t enough. Pharaoh’s knowing of the dream wasn’t enough. Even the interpretation of it wasn’t. The aversion or defence against the famine was. The solution to the warning is the full counsel.

Other times, God will not begin with the warning, but with the solution. He might tell Pharaoh to start saving a tenth, and yet conceal the matter of the famine to come. This is when we have questions and God is demanding of us things we don’t understand.

But His love language is obedience — which obedience is to save us, and not God; for He needs no saving. My sister was charged to fast for 40 days as the year began, but she wasn’t given full closure as to why.

Months later, witchcraft was the weapon formed against her; nearly causing her to run mad. BUT! She had the solution already before the enemy ever thought of it; and the ammunition stored in advance retaliated on her behalf, and she did not die! God revealed everything to her — and she was grateful.

Earlier, we had planned an overnight with her (weeks before) — but it didn’t happen. When I got home, I found my aunt dealing with the same weapon. Not to brag, but my presence and knowledge of scripture brought the situation to its knees, leading the family around my aunt, and her, like the Levites did the Jews — to victory. She did not die; but lived and saw the goodness of God in the land of the living.

Another prominent preacher of the gospel (Apostle Grace Lubega of Phaneroo Ministries) testified of acquiring undulated land in Naguru, Kampala. His ministry was celebrating 10 years in a few, but he mentioned that two months before August, God told Him to grade that land. He didn’t understand why — as the celebration was scheduled to happen at Kololo Independence Grounds.

Three days to the anniversary, it was made known to them that the Independence grounds would not accommodate them due to some constructions there.

There was some panic, but it was not to be compared to what the situation would have been, if their own ground had not been graded and leveled. In the shortest time possible, volunteers were rallied to prep the place, and by Saturday, you could have thought this was the originally designated place for the celebrations. The vision bearer then understood why God had asked him to grade.

Actual footage of the Anniversary

This same man still testifies of how the Spirit prompted him to pray on his way from picking up his boss’ child from school years ago. Suddenly, a huge truck skid and whammed into them, only damaging a side mirror (if I recall). The Holy Spirit told him that he’d have died that day had he not followed through with the prayer.

Had he brushed it off the grading and this, I can’t imagine what could have happened. Thank God we’ll never know!

Another key as well, on top of the learned ear, is to pray in the Spirit. The learned ear of course calls for intimacy and cultivation of God’s voice; such that one can know it is surely Him speaking. At that level one must be far beyond doctrines that cause questioning; like how men today debate whether or not God still speaks.

God must be such a friend to you here — very close that you know Him and how He communicates, just like you would an earthly friend even if they called you on an unknown number.

Prayer altogether can avert warnings especially those that come as judgement. The Bible says we do not know what we should pray for or how we should; but His spirit intercedes for us with groanings that can’t be uttered.

I call to remembrance Hezekiah, when Isaiah brought the news; telling him to set his house in order for he was about to die. The king prayed, and God added him 15 years. The judgement was averted! See how prayer is key!

Romans 8:27 says God’s Spirit intercedes for us according to God’s will. As we pray in the Spirit, He ensures that God’s will becomes on earth as it is in Heaven. You are caught offside if you do not know this will; and James said that you will pray amiss. Praying amiss also revolves around the future; you being blind to what is to come! And so how can you pray certainly?

You’d be praying against witchcraft basing on your past experiences when there isn’t! What if the actual threat is a famine to come for seven years!

Your mind may not know this, but God’s Spirit not only knows the right thing to pray for, but ALL things.

That is why we must seriously invest in Him, and become very best friends with Him; for that is how He will tell you O Abraham, the destruction of Sodom, and so prepare you to save your nephew Lot! That is how He’ll tell you of your unjust father in law, Jacob, but grant you wisdom to multiply your flocks! By not just investing time but QUALITY time with Him.

He still speaks today. He still warns. Yield unto Him, more each and every day than you did the day before. And He will make known to you all mystery and ways forward, even without you asking of Him.

Cultivate and whet your bond with Him, more and more.

Happy bonding!

Isaiah‬ ‭50‬:‭5‬ The Lord GOD hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back. ‭‭

Isaiah‬ ‭30‬:‭21 … and thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. ‬

John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.
