The Useless Things

The Bible says, He numbers the stars. He knows each by name. (Psalm 147:4)

But these stars shall all pass away. Heaven and earth shall — His word says. And that, in my view lessens the value of the stars.

Yes they are beautiful, and don’t get me wrong, but to me it seems vanity! Vanity of vanities like the preacher said.

The other side to this coin is the wisdom: The wisdom that you’re not like the stars. The wisdom that you’re not like the lilies. The wisdom that you’re not like the birds.

If He feeds the sparrows with buffets, if He dresses the lilies for a runway, if He knows the names of the stars — the useless things, how much more you!

His word shall not pass away. When you’re born again, you are born of the incorruptible word as well. Your nature is alike. (1 Pet 1:23) You shall not pass away either. So when you’re going through that trial; feeling heartbroken, feeling forgotten, feeling broke — remember God has known and cared for the useless things to the detail!

How much more detail will He apply to you?!

You are of more value than all these things. He knows they are temporal, and gives His best for them! How much more the permanent!

Now, now, He applied the theory to you as well, saying, He knows the number of hairs on your head. BUT OF WHAT IMPORTANCE IS KNOWING HOW MANY HAIRS YOU HAVE ON YOUR BODY? Will it give you a fast ticket to heaven? Will it cause a promotion at your job? Will it help you win a lottery? Useless right?! But He took the time and applied Himself to it, if He gave Himself wholly to that useless maths … He must have already computed the useful maths!

If He took the time to count, to divide, and multiply your hairs — He has taken time (I’m sure) to array the more important stuff, like your provision, your tomorrow, your future, your children’s going and coming, their children … and so much more!

Those that are diligent tend to waste time after attempting the goals they had on time. A movie can be watched after all chores have been done. Window shopping happens when the important shopping is done. I deem that is what God did with us too. After settling your future, He embarked on the useless things as He awaited your arrival on earth.

For if He feeds the sparrows with buffets, if He dresses the lilies for a runway, if He knows the names of the stars — the useless things, how much more you!

How much more you!

Matthew 6:25-30 Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, [will He] not much more [clothe] you, O you of little faith?
