Dear Watchman …

It is no coincidence that at 02:59 a.m. you lost sleep. It doesn’t shudder heaven!

God was just reminding me that there will be signs to prove that you are a watchman. I know some watchmen dose off, but at least the diligent we must be sure, that they sleep often less than those they are guarding. Clive Lewis said that humility isn’t thinking less of yourself but rather thinking of yourself less. Here we do not pray less of ourselves, but pray for ourselves less!

So should it shock you that you’re up early having lost sleep?

It must not!

Indeed unless the Lord watches over a city, the watchman watches in vain. But you are joined to the Lord being one spirit with Him; a co-heir with Christ. What happens then is; there’s some co-watching.

The Lord is watching through you. He who doesn’t sleep or slumber as He watches over your family, your business, your children — wants to partner with you so that each will be a praise in the earth.

As you have slept off, He sees a danger ahead far atop on the battlement station. And so He elbows you to awake and see it as well, so that you either sound the alarm and alert the masses, or shoot the arrow and revert the enemy.

You sound the alarm by either praying, reinforcing the shield or hedge around your family or intercession point … or declaring the word — casting down imaginations, or judging every tongue that has risen against you or what pertains to you.

Sometimes the alarm is in a warning we won’t understand. And so, the communication happens between the Holy Spirit and your spirit. You find yourself awake, no sleep! But your spirit has learnt to hear His voice.

Code Red He says, and you find your response being praying in the Spirit!

Unbeknownst to you, and many that you watch over, you counter fiery darts, and blazing catapults. The prayers have set the Lord on edge to fight for you! You then destroy diseases, accidents, plots and ploys, and many other things that could have been intended to end you or those you know, or anything you root for.

When all danger is averted, sometimes you stay awake a little further to confirm. Other times the Lord Jesus asks you to rest. ‘I’ve got you covered.’

There’s that time as well, when you are nudged many times to awake, but you stubbornly sleep off again. His mercies shake you off your seat and depending on our yieldness or brokeness, some respond quick. While others sleep on. Ah, it’s no wonder when they awake, the city could have been breached on their watch.

They are asked — or they ask, “How come I didn’t see this coming?”

You did watchman.

You thought it was a dream or imagination. But no worries. You learn anyhow! So that next time, you are on guard.

I just pray, that the damage is not too much, to get you fired from your post. I pray it’s not as much as the city having been captured, for then there’ll be no city left to watch! But may haps, take back — meaning war! A whole other story.

And … the dangers to be deflected or shunted do not come only at night, but at anytime. The dangers are not just men, but creatures too. The psalmist speaks of the snare of the fowler. He speaks of the noisome pestilence. He speaks of the arrow that flies by day, the terror by night, and the destruction that wastes at noonday.

You must then exercise your spirit enough, to understand, that God will draw you to pray, even amidst a task during day — when He senses any of those coming. And you will tread over the lion and adder. He says you will trample the dragon under your feet!

In other words, victory in your ‘watchmanship’ is guaranteed.

The things to watch after are many. This includes our children — unborn and born, the church, our families, workplaces, communities and neighborhoods, the future, purpose and assignment, others, etc. Jesus spoke of the enemy that comes to sow tares too among the wheat. That one must be dealt with too.

That is why we must assume a new form like Jesus’ in Zechariah 3:9: One body several eyes, watching many things at once. For beside eyes being representative of Ephesians’ eyes of understanding for revelation, they are for seeing or watching — basically. And the more one has, the more they don’t need to turn in different directions to see what is happening that side. Such a one cannot miss a thing, nor get surprised or be found off guard!

It is no wonder, that the wheels of His throne had eyes allover as Ezekiel saw. It is no wonder, that the cherubim are made of eyes allover. God’s nature is ‘to watch’ at all times. We must be grateful then, to participate in this watching! It’s an honor to be one of His eyes, or a couple of them! And if it is an honor, then the watching will be a yoke so easy, and a burden so light.

He works in us both to will and to watch, for His good pleasure! It’s a pleasure, I say again, to be God’s eyes! Think of how many creatures long for that privilege! A billion plus! But He chose none of them, but you!

You’re an important role player in His grand scheme of things! Yes you are, dear watchman!

Psalms 127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman watches in vain.

Isaiah 62:6-7 I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the LORD, do not keep silent, And give Him no rest till He establishes And till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.
