Martha, Martha, Sit!

Martha, Martha, Sit! Do not be cumbered about much serving! Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: the dishes will do themselves! I mean, the stones can worship me all by themselves. Surely these too can receive hands to scrub themselves.

Martha, Martha, Sit! One thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Martha, Martha, Sit! Your thirst & hunger must be more than mine. That I may give you water and bread that’ll make you yearn no more. But if you think I need the feeding, ah! Can the clay advise the potter…? When you receive from me I will not need food. That is my food — when you take of me! Remember the Samaritan woman at the well? Yes, my food is when you take of me.

Martha, Martha, Sit! Sit here at my right hand, and see all your enemies being made your footstool. Sit here with me — on the throne of grace. Rule and reign with me. Hold the sword and the scepter. I’ve called you a queen and priestess unto the most high. Reign!

Martha, Martha, Sit! I’ve prayed for you. When Satan sought to sift you! To sift you through busyboding. Do not be too busy for me. Even in ministry, don’t let it get you to forget the principal thing. You must remember that I died to have you. Just you. Even if you didn’t serve me in any other way, and just sat in the place which I redeemed you to, and you just communed with me without doing any other thing, I’d still be God. The earth would not fall out of place but stay the course. I just want YOU!

Martha, Martha, Sit! Be still! I will be exalted in all the earth. Sit and be co-heir with me. You don’t need to rebuke anything. Just trample over all those snakes and scorpions and all the power of the enemy. And none shall by any means harm thee! The adder and lion you tread upon! None shall harm thee!

Martha, Martha, Sit! One thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Daniel, Lily, Doug, Judith, Eva, Julian, Nich, Amy, Dora, Grace, Nicolette — SIT! Don’t you know, that when you are with me, you are with your husbands. You are with your wives. They are in me. SIT! Don’t you know that when you are with me, you are with your houses, your cars, your children, and their children — your future, your purpose and your destinies! With me are your lost loved ones, and anyone you feel you miss. I’m God of all flesh. I AM with them. I make silver come forth a fish. With me are all impossibilities possible!

Biggie SIT! And I’ll teach you how to profit, will teach you; on the power to get wealth, to redeem time and to gain speed. SIT, here at the table with me. In the banqueting house, where my banner over you is love! Where I’ve prepared a table for you both in the presence and absence of your enemies! Any evil I turn for good. You can’t lose with me. Drink of my cup. Eat my bread. Rest! The dishes will do themselves!

Biggie, Biggie, Sit! One thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. I see Mary of you!

With me, you can’t amiss! With me, you have everything. I am that good part! And I won’t be taken from you! Even after death, I will be with you. We will have each other forever!

Once in a while, we need that pause for effect: to know that God wants our attention — us present TO Him, and not worried about what we can do FOR Him. Martha wanted to feed God! And yet He can live without bread! He was the bread itself; that Martha — that we — need to sit and have of! That which when we have of, we won’t hunger again!

Reader, Reader, Sit! One thing is needful …

Luke 10:38-42
