Availeth Much

James 5:16b says ‘The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.’

When Peter and John approached the lame man at the gate Beautiful, he was asking for alms. His prayer for the day must have been to be provided for a meal. When he was miraculously healed, there was much more to it than meets the eye.

That man was able to go to the bathroom all by himself like never before. He no longer needed people to pity him or to carry him to the loo. He stopped being a burden, and was able to work to sustain both himself and his family, in case he had one. This was the same case for the man who Jesus healed, who always waited for the waters to be stirred who had been sick for 38 years.

Beyond the healing needed, these men had much more availed to them, than the need at the time.

For the widow in 2 Kings 4, her urgent prayer was that her sons be not taken as slaves by a creditor. Elisha then gave instruction to her and her sons to pour oil in multiple vessels. When they did, they not only cleared the debt, but lived off the oil that was left after the sales.

What does this have to say about the righteous man?

It seems to me that the fervent prayer of a righteous man, is able to produce exceedingly, abundantly above the request at hand because of the infinite God behind each prayer. When one needs just a well, the prayer will avail a spring. When one needs just a spring, the prayer of the righteous man will avail a river. When one needs money, the prayer will evoke multiple jobs to not only supply a one off need but avail continual windows of supply.

The law declares that it will always avail much — much more than needed. And the prayer is not asking God to open the flood gates of heaven. The prayer is an act of communication with God-ordained authority. It is speaking with understanding of one’s identity as one with God; For example, when Peter said “…what I do have, I give to you, in the name of Jesus, rise up and walk…”

He didn’t ask God to heal this lame man. He commanded and it stood fast. He spoke and it was done. In your speech today as well, you avail much more. For as long as your understanding and revelation in God is not warped, that is the effectiveness with which you will make to appear so much.

Let me end with this example. Lydia texted me from the US in 2020. Her child was in breech. The doctors had already told her the hefty amount needed to be paid in order to turn her baby within her to face the direction meant for it to face. I sent back a prayer in text form, that that child would turn miraculously without any procedure being inflicted upon her.

I slept off since it was 11pm where I was but morning where she was. I woke up to a text saying, “Hallelujah, and it was SO!” She said she prayed through what I had sent her before going in hours later. The same doctors scanned her one more time and they told her she wasn’t meant to be in the hospital.

Why? The child was fine, facing the right direction!

The ‘availing much’ of this prayer was not just the miracle. Lydia also returned home with the hefty amount of dollars that was meant to go to the hospital bills. That morning, she knew she was going to hospital and coming back with less cash! But God just availed MUCH more! A miracle — free of charge!

The next time you go to pray, carry the awareness, that you are creating much more than is needed. Exceedingly abundantly above! You’re availing much more for generations to come than yourself. You’re speaking into your great grand children’s destinies on top of yours, and you’re creating more worlds and realities, just like God did in the very beginning.

This catapults one to pray always, without ceasing!
