Building vs Coming

Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

Romans 10:17 So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Being a student of the word, I have come to notice differences in words used, and what each might mean. For example, notice above, that one scripture gives us a building material, and the other gives us how the building material comes.

Faith is like having bricks come to a site. It is like getting the cement and sand deposited where a building is to be erected. That’s a huge step, because by then, one has acquired land, and has bought these important requirements

However, that doesn’t mean a tower is going to come up automatically. If for example, we were building the tower of Babel, which threatened heaven, I’m sure it reached such a height that millions of people would notice kilometres away getting its head disappearing behind the clouds…but that was only after it had been built!

No one saw it when the bricks and mortar lay on the ground scattered across square meters and square meters of land.

In the same way, I remember God telling us that we’d be a city on a hill! A city has to be built, and the building has just been told to us by Jude how it ought to happen.

When your faith is in building materials form, scattered on the ground, the enemy can attack at will, as you’d be having no boundary walls. The wind and the heat will do as they please. When you start building, the walls will go a specific height which the enemy could climb…but when you keep building (praying in the Holy Spirit) your walls tower grander, until they are as tall & thick as those of Jericho… whose thickness was as much as a highway’s width, it’ll be so hard for the enemy to attack.

At that level, it will be difficult for your faith to crumble…though that won’t stop the enemy from trying. But you’ll be so big a city, where great things are spoken of you… And men and nations would be running to you for refuge!

The other elements where building is attributed is The Word as Luke states in Acts 20:32, “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.”

God and His Word, here, BUILD you up! But, His word ships in the material called faith (as Romans 10:17 states. His word makes it come…) Everyone can see & say ‘Ey, this mate is going to construct something…’ but they can’t tell what it is. They can’t imagine how big it will be!

That’s when praying in the Holy Spirit comes in. A lot of stigma has been created about this specific gift of the Holy Spirit… but the more it is stigmatized, the more I believe it is one of the most important gifts, (since it’s the only gift that wasn’t there in the old testament…) So the enemy does his best, so that even if you are built up…He’ll stop your faith from being built up… For the level of faith one might need to heal a flu, might be different from that needed to heal a cancer… The level one will need to acquire a 50 by 100 plot of land will be way different from one who is believing God to acquire 300 acres!

The former might think the latter’s case is close to impossible…

Jesus said ‘even if we had faith as small as small as a mustard seed…’. Maybe, we don’t need more faith, but to eliminate the unbelief rather (like for the one who thinks 300 acres are too impossible to be asked of God and be received…) and tongues help us to undo this so well.

So, in conclusion, here is what I hoped for you to learn;

1. That, the ‘coming’ of faith is different from ‘building’ faith

2. That faith is built by praying in the Holy Spirit (tongues…)

2b. Some versions say ‘building ON your most holy faith’, telling us as well, that faith is the foundation of the believer. As God & His Word build you, He follows construction principles too; He starts with a foundation of faith…then adds the super structure

3. Building you is different from building your faith (just like body building is different from wealth accumulation or normal growth) Building one’s body is one aspect, building one’s finances is another…

4. Without faith it is impossible to please God (bare minimum). So one has to make it come by hearing more and more of His Word, then build on it (both as a foundation and a material) to conquer great milestones and do great exploits for God as the saints mentioned in Hebrews 11 did!

5. Having the materials on a site—bricks and all—doesn’t mean a building is going to come automatically

Hebrews 11:9-10 By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as [in] a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker [is] God.

  1. “The coming of faith is different from the building faith, faith is built by praying in the holy spirit” It’s a point to ponder ourselves about 🤔
