“God I want to see you!” 🚮

Many times I personally, have fallen victim, of asking God to see Him. Even Moses over 4000 years ago asked that He might see Him.

Aside from seeing Him in light & lightning and that frightful sight, there must be a reason why He hasn’t been commonly seen.

I was thinking about it deeply. By deeply I mean diligently. That statement echoed many times in my head, “God I want to see you, God I want to see you, God I want to see you.”

But He’s Spirit. And we are bound to our physical flesh. Meaning, though elements of His creation lie about; the trees, the birds, the wind, those are His physical creations but not Him.

Seeing a photo of me or a video I recorded is different from being with me and seeing me physically, eye to eye. I understand we all desire to “see God”, but He laughed at me and at His simplicity.

You see, He said, ” In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.” We all know that His word is recorded in the bible… DING!

It hit me!

That physical bible, or swible on your phone, seems just words, but it’s HIM! That’s the physical Him. So though we want to see visions, visions are only videos of Him that He shows us, (like I already explained) but may not necessarily be Him.

Some people ask for angels. “O let them visit me tonight.” But when strongly thought about, they are just lusting after these things. We don’t want them because they are of God. We somehow want to show off in the long run; So that when people hear us speak, we sound so spiritual having seen God.

I have found that men who actually have multiple experiences with God, have so due to an overflow of the physical way He’s availed Himself (in the Bible). They don’t go begging Him to come through visions. He reveals whatever He wishes to them.

That doesn’t mean if you have them less often (or never at all) that you are not spiritual. I think God just likes it simple. Even to Moses, He only showed His back but not the face. In case you feel the Bible is ‘boring’ you, go watch videos of God through His creation—go just stare at the trees and silent hills and singing birds.

But if you want Him-Him, like you’d like me-me (not just by phone call) but be able to touch me or feel me, pull out His Word. That’s Him. Recite His Word. That’s Him.

Let’s stop all this “I’m sojourning to find God.” Let’s stop all this “Show me a sign.” Let’s stop all this “Send me a burning bush or dry fleece where all around is wet.” When in doubt, go read His Word!

He delights in simplicity. Go open Him. In that psalm, in that proverb or just talk to Him in prayer. Don’t go asking Him to show Himself if you haven’t seen the simplest way He has availed Himself to you.

The only thing that can please Him is faith. And the just live by faith. Many people get frustrated when they tell Him to show up in a fire, or an earthquake or in a bank balance equivalent and He doesn’t! You see He’s God and you’re not. He can show up in any way He chooses, but not the way you dictate to Him.

I like to say that God has no face. If He did, then tell me the color of His eyes, or His hair. I like to believe that He has no form nor color. He’s light. I like to say God’s super creative. Way creative such that He can appear in a dragon fly, or in a cobweb, and He can speak through the moon or by the mouth of a random person.

I’ve learnt to stop limiting Him. I’ve learnt that He is amorphous, though He has One primary form which is His Word. Yes that Bible of yours. God is a shape shifter, like H²O. He can show up as water, or ice or steam, but we all know that His bottom atomic structure is H²O. That H²O is His Word.

So what if you haven’t received a prophecy from “a prophet” all year. His Word is primary prophecy! You may not understand the complexity of the billions of galaxies and how they span unchecked through the universe yet without a physical foundation, but that’s just a thing He created and not Him in the very essence.

I make beautiful cards and art pieces. But if you have one of them, yes you’ll be in awe of my talent. You’ll be astounded by my creativity in my product but I am not my product! Hugging my card won’t mean hugging me just like killing an ant won’t mean one has killed God!

Burning bibles as well won’t mean burning God. If someone has God’s Word hidden in his or her heart, that’s where His word lives. In our times, another bible could be bought.

I still believe knowing God is far much exceeding in weight than seeing or talking to Him just like knowing someone. To know means to understand someone or be aware of who they are and not merely what they show.

For example, a ‘sexy’ man can look however ‘sexy’ in all his attractiveness, and a silly girl would end up being wooed by his looks and voice in those late night calls. She then quickly judges that man by that simple character she’s seen for a few days or weeks only to discover that he is a ruthless short tempered jerk without self control, who beats her up to near death after they’ve got married.

They come around in public, smiling and waving while other girls think he’s the ideal man, but the victim woman beseeches “… you don’t KNOW him…” But how did this lady end up in this situation? She only saw and talked. She didn’t check the man’s heart!

Even so, I believe to experience (know) God, one has to go beyond feelings and senses. For example, it is so foolish (from my perspective) for someone to say “I don’t feel God present in this tough time,” and yet God said in His word, “I’ll never leave you nor forsake you.”

God isn’t emotional. He’s revelational. And ‘revelational’ is an act of revealing/disclosing… which God has, through His word! Unlike the letters we write, His are Him. His letters are His body expressing His heart so that we may know Him, and use every note of information He gives us to construct a description to show how He would look like… and stop asking, “God I want to see you.”

The only problem with “God I want to see you” is two possibilities; Him not showing up, and someone giving up on Him, or something else showing up and you thinking it is Him. The devil himself can dress up as an angel of light… We’ve seen many people impersonating other people and stealing a treasure meant for someone else, which in this case would be you.

To see God, I’d greatly encourage you to rely on the primary form that He is; His written word! Whether you feel bored by the word sometimes (or not,) stick with Him till the end. That’s God right there. And slowly, as you continue seeking and knocking, you’ll continue finding openings of not just what He looks like, but who He is!

Turn ye this day from “God I want to see you” to “God I want to know you”.

He is all yours for the discovering! And remember that if that urge shows up, He’s just a Bible away…
