Why Discipleship

Matthew 28:18-19 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
(Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (NKJV))

First it’s because, it was a Command from Jesus! And if you’ve noticed many Christians are just believers, and not making Disciples! Being a disciple means Jesus has bestowed power upon you (v18)! Discipleship is a space where you learn to draw it out and exercise it!

The difference between Believers and Disciples is that the first are more about escaping hell, and once they have accepted Jesus, they know they have received Fire Insurance! Disciples go on to do what their Master does! Does He heal? They heal too. Does he raise the dead? They raise the dead too! Does He pray? They pray too! If they are not doing what He does, then they are still in the cluster of mere believers!

At a point of overflow, a desire burns to make more men to do what Christ does and that’s the point where we transcend and become Disciple-Makers! According to these you can rate yourself and know where you still are…putting in remembrance where Jesus expects you to be; The stage of Disciple-making!

He called you to make disciples and not just converts! Many are those who receive Christ in various churches and crusades, but who cares to guide them into being The person they’ve given their lives to. Many are more concerned about just the numbers…and not what will happen to the won over soul.

Kris Vallotton describes this as bringing new believers who aren’t parented! It’s like a woman getting pregnant on a date. We lead people to Christ, without relationship or plan to parent them. In services we create an atmosphere of romance where a preacher preaches, passion grows, and a child is conceived! This is more of forced rape! We scare the people into the Kingdom, and we care more about hearing them say ‘The Sinners’ prayer’ than we are concerned about preparing a child (breastfeeding, baby clothes, buying a crib etc)

Note; Jesus never said make disciples in all nations, but of all Nations! That means All Nations ought to be disciples of Christ! A disciple is a worshiper, a servant, and a witness! That’s what we ought to make of all nations, but remember, nations are made of people!

So why not start with your friends! Making a Disciple means you’ve been anointed with influence! Jesus discipled—that means He did this with INTENTIONALITY! To make others like Christ, you’ll have to have a plan. Bible scripts and christian literature that you’ve read that’ll help them get where you are and in the long run, make them implement what they’ve learnt!

When this is done, no one who cones to salvation can ever be lost! During Discipleship, a One on One must be evident! We see Jesus hangout with his 12 all the time. At church it’s hard to have a One on One with the Pastor, and many people seem so busy with life even when cells or missional communities are available.

But you were commissioned and commanded to go make disciples of all Nations! You’d better started today! You’ve been anointed to Lead, to Influence and to Multiply! Worry not, The Holy Spirit is there to guide you and to ensure that you are Intentional about it!

Hang out with your friends but with a vision and a mission!
