As I celebrated my birthday this year, I was inclined to Psalm 103:1-5. Unlike before, the verse that stood out was 4: Who redeems your life from destruction. Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies.
Destruction comes in many forms. I believe one of which is debt. Earlier, I had borrowed from a cousin for an emergency, and had withdrawn from my savings, cash to help me tailor that suit!
The total cumulative sum was 400k (Uganda Shillings). Deep down, I knew that was quite disturbing; but I was meditating on Him redeeming my life from destruction. To redeem is to restore. It is as well ‘clearing or releasing from debt.’ I recall the story of the prophet’s wife whose sons were almost being taken as slaves for the debt her husband had failed to clear before he died. God did redeem her from destruction by the little oil she had.
Guess what! God redeemed me too!
At the end of the day, I had received a total of 400k, from different people; The first sent me 100k at 4am, saying I buy a birthday cake. I received 150k from a friend in South Africa; then 50k again from another friend. Another friend asked me to go have lunch at any restaurant and send him the bill. I saw the message late; and he sent 100k instead.
I got more! But O how overwhelmed I was!
I saw God practically redeem my life from destruction! And in the same manner, may He redeem you from that disease! That mortgage! That loan! That debt! That addiction! That crisis! … You will not be destroyed! He will save you from on high! The Psalmist said ‘He sent from above, He took me, He drew me out of many waters!’ (18:16)
May my God draw you out of the many waters! You won’t smell like the fire you seem to be going through! Nor smell smoke! He will do exceedingly, abundantly above all you’d ask or think! He does this generationally!
May He redeem your parents, grandparents or children and grandchildren from any destruction. Be it that they are born or not! May evil be far from them! May it not come near their dwelling place! Though a thousand may fall by their side and ten thousand on their right hand, only by their eyes will they see that destruction. But it won’t come close.
And even if it seems like it did; and it seems to blanket them, they will not end in shame! Whatever evil was prepared for them, it turns for good! May the crown of lovingkindness and tender mercies rest on you and yours! In Jesus’ name.

Hosea 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction! Pity is hidden from My eyes.
