During this last Sunday’s service, there was a reenactment of Jesus flipping the tables in the temple in my mind. Paul states that our bodies are the new temple housing the Lord. The church walls immediately turned into the boundaries of my spirit. I’d see Jesus flipping tables of what was not meant to be in this temple writing to you.
In Matthew 21, He said, “It is written … ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’ ” Prayer is the act of communion and fellowship.
Unfortunately, most of us have lost the quality: house of communion. And I believe — even if sometimes it is said ‘when God is jealous, He’ll let you up to your gods’ — He can run down a Jonah to remind us to repent. Depending on our maturity levels, He can come Himself, and flip the stubborn tables we have set to eat down with our gods. Tables He had not set before us in the presence of our enemies, but our own that we have adorned! — Tables like Aaron creating a golden calf for the Israelites.
May He tear down the altars we have set up for other gods — for other idols that have proved stubborn in our lives! May He come to your rescue and HELP!
May He turn the tables of covetousness, envy, jealousy, greed, a lack of self-control through over indulgence, hatred, grudges, unforgiveness, dishonesty, laziness, dishonor, flattery, pornography, fornication, carelessness, and other silent vices that remain underlying in our hearts!
And when it is all done, may He use us as well to either turn such tables in others’ lives, or usher Himself into the hearts of many, to continue the same through us!
Why this is so important is because, even Samson could carry tonnes of gates, an unseen table brought him down. When David was not at the battle field, an unseen table caused him to sin, and then sin again to cover up the consequences of the first sin! The unseen table caused an entire loss of destiny. For those who aren’t familiar with this story, David saw a woman bathing off his balcony and immediately fell in love:
I must have her!
He thought … even after discovering that she was another man’s. His one-off led to a pregnancy, and the husband would soon suspect, since he was away for some time; that it could not have been him! David panicked and resolved to kill the husband of the woman indirectly — taking on the widow as his.
I know not much was written about him, but what if — like you — he had a dream! What if (this is out of context but—) … what if the victim was that day’s Steve Jobs, about to release something called ‘an iPhone!’
See how much the world would have lost!
So let’s not tinkle with these sins! Let Jesus kick them down! Like Dagon may they fall! And in the end, may you see that all of the wreckage was working out for your good.
