Saved by the Past | Saved by You

I have heard of testimonies where someone is woken up by the Holy Spirit to pray! Most times, people never know why they were awaked. It is only revealed in the future God’s actual intention!

This is my encouragement to you; to know that your sowing to the Spirit is not in vain. I am always humbled to know that what God advises us to do is never for his benefit but ours!

Sometimes we enter a season of intensive prayer or fasting or reading the word, only to enter a wilderness that robs us of time to sow to the Spirit! The only good news is, there is a reaping! And even if we might not pray as vibrantly as we did … ago, we find that we are bringing in the sheaves that we sowed in tears.

We may find that life is a bit busier than usual, and so we can’t read the word as much as we did before. But, the time we spent doing so, got us stocked with arsenal!

Sometimes I am shocked at the amount of scripture that jumps out my head when retaliating the enemy. You find that it is still fresh, a spare magazine when the rounds of bullets are done. But if you check when I sat to meditate on that scripture! It was years ago!

In the Bible, we see instances of pasts saving people. When Solomon followed after other gods, God Almighty said in 1 Kings 11:34,

Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life for David my servant’s sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes:

Solomon was spared because of his past, or someone from his past. Rahab the prostitute saved the spies from Israel and hid them from her people when they came searching for them. Her act not only saved her and her family that time when Jericho fell, but her descendants were aligned and grafted into the genealogy of our Lord Jesus!

Dorcas or Tabitha in Acts 9 was known for her charitable deeds and good works. When she died, Peter rose her from the dead. A preacher once said that God keeps such alive, for they extend His hand to the needy and alms to the poor; but if you are selfish and self seeking — will your presence be missed on earth!?

Mordecai warned of the kingdom usurpers. They were stopped at once — executed if my memory serves right; and the deed was written, and forgotten. One night, King Artaxerxes lost sleep, and he commanded the book of remembrance be brought. The king read about what Mordecai did! And he was promoted prodigally.

Cornelius’ giving of alms provoked Heaven to send the messenger of good news to him; and that is how the gentiles received the gospel. Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son was brought up to David. Jonathan was David’s best friend, and though he was no longer existing, that bond caused favor to come upon his son.

When Syria through Sennacherib attacked Israel, Hezekiah prayed. God promised deliverance, but this was the reason;

‘For my own honor and for the sake of my servant David, I will defend this city and protect it.’ 2 Kings‬ ‭19‬:‭34‬

A Julius from church helped out a young lady. Years passed. He met the lady at a supermarket. The lady was settled in Canada. He expressed his grievance: he’d been trying to get a scholarship for his daughter in one of the universities there. The lady immediately took on the quest. As I speak, his daughter graduated about a year ago or two.

I will end with this one. My dad employed a gentleman at the government offices. Somehow the man found his way around and up. Years later, he gets the biggest contracts with the government. One time we were stuck and we needed to travel. He fueled his car to full, gave it to us and told us to use it as long as we needed for the trip. He added us cash for more fuel. When my brother passed on last year, he gave his heart out towards the burial arrangements …

And when I think about all these testimonies, I am challenged to be good and kind to those around me in any way I can, if I can. Who knows what future miracle I will set in motion?

Whatever you do today, remember this will be your past soon. May God guide your steps, to sow seeds that will reap you harvests of things you would not have got on your own…

And, may what you do, both for Him and others, cause a monument to rise to Him; that He’ll look upon and say, ‘because Biggie did this, I will have mercy on his family…’

‘… because you did this, I will take the snare away from this generation and rain showers of favor upon your grand children and their children, and their children…’

Amen and amen. Let us not grow weary in doing good!

2 Kings 8:19 Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, [and] to his children.

Isaiah 37:35 For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.

Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
