I Won’t Let You Go Till You Bless Me …

These were the words of Jacob as He wrestled with God.

But after God has blessed you — then what? Shall you let Him go?

Nay, I say! You must not.

Many sadly have let God go!

After He has blessed them with that job, with that car, or that child!

This lessens the value of the gifter or giver. It’s like loving a woman just for sex. She deserves more than just being an object. She’s human, present with the need for genuine love as well…

We have fallen more in love with the gifts than the gifter!

And yet the opposite — falling in love with the gifter — is the essence of life. Not only life, but eternal life.

The preacher in Ecclesiastes concludes saying the whole duty of man is to fear the Lord and to keep His commandment. John in 17 says eternal life is knowing God and His one true son.

It is not asking Him to bless us; or to give us what we need. We need Him. For all these things shall be found in Him. In Him all things consist. ALL!

No wonder when we seek Him first, all of them shall be added to us. The core of the matter — and what all life is about, is placement. Who takes first place? The blessing or the blesser? We must each live like we were Adam. Only He and God existed. The idea of spouse or children hadn’t even come. It was about ‘why did you make me?’, ‘who really is He that made me?’

The transition of events were God, the Garden, then the rib. He must take first place.

If it is about provision, Myles Munroe said that ambassadors are property of the government they represent. That means, their needs are all taken care of that government (which in this case is Heaven). Heaven knows you must be equipped for all work; and unlike earthly governments, it never delays nor runs bankrupt to your aid as its missionary.

So, if you were Jacob, and you happened to encounter the Lord now, I pray you say, ‘I won’t let you go!’ — and end there.

For even God Himself didn’t let you go. He didn’t let you go even before you knew Him. He didn’t let you go even when yet a sinner you were!

It only makes sense, or it only is fair, that we give the reciprocity, and not let go of Him either, whether what or what!

Because, beyond ‘not letting Him go till He blesses you’, there’s a much more important matter: not letting Him go till you make known and fulfill every purpose for which He made you for, here on earth.’

For I am most certain, it is not just ‘building a mansion’, or just getting married, or just having kids, or merely getting a good job. God is too big to set you up for such low ends. Rather, He’s too big to ensure that your existence causes impact both in the world that is now, and the world that is to come after.

Even there, ‘letting go of Him’ is out of the question.

Even there, you’ll still be in need of Him. For in Him you live and move and have your being. Apart from Him … Hell states claim on you.

Judas’ suicide was proof that he had sought FIRST the kingdom of money. Transgressing the divine order of placement could disintegrate our order of lives; killing some things within, or — like Judas, ending us.
