The Finishers’ Anointing

Zechariah 4:9 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you.

Moses didn’t finish His assignment yet he was anointed. Yes he began its journey, but never finished it. The parable of the virgins states that all the virgins bore oil — all were anointed, but only the wise saw the groom.

In life, I have seen — and I am most certain you too have — many start things they never finished. Many fall in love, and never make it to the altar to avow. Many start building houses, and half way through, the house lay desolate with all manner of weeds abloom. Many embark on education, and along the way, some get pregnant, or just fail to finish, returning with no certificate or degree. Many create businesses only to abort them in their infantry; and so called authors after a few chapters, lose the plot, and the manuscript finds its way to the bottom of the abyss of a drawer.

This isn’t meant to be so. Or shouldn’t end this way.

Though the title states it, there’s no such thing as an anointing to help you finish. Paul states that God Himself is the one who can help you finish the work He began in you. (Philippians 1:6) Other times it’s not just about finishing. To finish, one needs to have a built character and the staying power.

Character is a requirement or factor to enable our finishing. Jacob accepted to work seven more years after the first seven, for Rachel. On the other side of the coin, Moses’ anger drove him to do something God hadn’t asked him to do, disqualifying him from his assignment to deliver the Israelites to the promised land. Lucky for you, His Holy Spirit in you, produces the fruit of love, joy, peace, long suffering, goodness, gentleness, meekness, faith, and self control, which will counter inward vices and equip you to finalize from stem to stern.

About the staying power, the mind has to be strong enough, backed up by one’s spirit to weather every storm! Some have this ability inbuilt, perhaps basing on life’s past experiences. I’ve had to be at university for the past — coming to 9 years now, trying to finish my architecture course. I began with a diploma in late 2015, wherewhich I was served a retake with 48% in the final semester. I braved the return to fix that in 2018.

In 2019, I returned for four years of the bachelors, which should have ended in 2023. But covid happened! And unlike many other universities, ours failed to fly with the online system (especially since ours is a hands-on course). Trust me many people dropped out — starting from the lockdown time.

A standing ovation to those that have walked into the fire of persistence and resilience thus far. Continue praying for us; the finish line is nigh. Long suffering is what it is; especially to one’s intellect — because many of our peers have married, had kids, finished their masters, and looking at oneself, one might feel stagnant; and frustrated! O but for the staying power…

Imagine Jesus did not finish dying on the cross! Peter tried to stop Him. Heck, even Jesus nearly threw in the towel in the garden of Gethsemane. But O for the staying power. Hebrews says He considered the joy ahead — the redemption of many that could only be unlocked if He braved a little further.

Sometimes, you too just need to peek at the future; and see the graduation, the victory, the wedding, and you’ll receive strength to complete the trial! One’s spirit must also refuse to be broken; for if it is, no one can bear, and one won’t be sustained in such life’s infirmities. (Proverbs 18:14)

Dying was one part. If Jesus didn’t resurrect, He’d not have finished well. But He did, and having faced death and overcome it, He dwells in you if you’re born again. Sometimes, who you are with will determine whether you finish or not! He didn’t let the Hebrew boys be consumed by the furnace fire. He didn’t let Peter sink while he walked on the sea from the boat. Yesterday my friend said to me, yes it wasn’t written, but Jesus and Peter must have walked back to the boat together!

And in the manner alike, may He hold your hand and walk you to the finish line. In your health journey, may He see you through the dieting, the self control, and the sets entire. Proverbs 16:3 as well advises us to commit our plans to the Lord, and He’ll make them prosper. May you commit your goals to Him; may He provide the wisdom to go about each of them, before you embark on them.

And may He carry you, like He did Jacob in the wilderness! May He bear you up through that challenging situation, and enable you finish! And if He is nudging you to return and complete something you abandoned, know, and know for sure, that His grace to enable you is available ever so abundantly. You are more than a conqueror! You finish well! Like stated in the theme scripture, May He enable your hands to finish the assignments He predestined for you before you were formed in your mother’s womb!

In the manner of Ezra to the Jews, may you prosper and finish that which you started! Finish that house! Finish that application software! Finish that book! Finish planting! In the name of Jesus!

And in the end, may He say to you ‘well done, good and faithful servant!’

Ezra 6:14 So the elders of the Jews built, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they built and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the command of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.

Ecclesiastes 7:8a Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof …
