Sinners’ Snare

Proverbs 1:10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.

I watched a 2022 movie consisting of two Jamaican brothers with an absent father growing up in a society bearing gangs and gun violence. The movie was based on a fictional novel.

I found not much wisdom, but fights, sex before marriage, homosexuality, disrespect of parents, no self control, the love of pleasure, and handling cares one’s way among others.

The continuous display of these, in songs and music videos, have robbed the power of parenthood and mentorship from parents of children. ‘Train a child in the way they should go so that when they grow, they won’t depart from it’ doesn’t stop when one turns 25: for that one is still a child in so many other things.

Without the proper rod of the Holy Spirit teaching children in their late teens and twenties or thirties, they’d end up learning new things — bad things, which because they didn’t exist 20 years ago, the children weren’t taught against them.

For example; in central Uganda, Africa, we were raised to kneel before elders, obey them, and respect them; but we weren’t taught against gluttony. In fact we were asked if we needed more food; but that was for 3 meals only. Perhaps because we had enough then, and not ‘more than enough.’ The control was without and not within. Now; the thirty-year-old has a good job, lives in an apartment, and he or she can’t be prevented from eating at 11 after breakfast at 8. They can’t be stopped from having that midnight snack either, and in that same order, they could not be stopped from watching explicit content long into the night.

See the need of a personal teacher! One who’ll be with you and in you at all times, holding you accountable?

Back to the movie that opened the article. It’s no cause for alarm that violence was appearing here since it seems to be commonplace in movies. Children are told not to try ‘this’ at home, but, like I said, twenty five-year-olds are still children. The teens might not apply the knives, but these others will pull them out when angered;

Perhaps it should be cause for alarm verily — the more violence appears, or the more sex outside marriage appears; for the viewer (especially the believer) is being educated, or brainwashed, to think holiness no longer has a say in this.

The continuous display of all these subtle, hostile or unholy aspects is sinners enticing us!

Indecency in songs; soaps, infidelity, unfaithfulness, disloyalty, ungratefulness … these are all enticing us (luring us) unbeknownst to us. I know of some cousins who know God, but, they’ve developed rotten opinions. One — without remorse — said she wouldn’t think twice about filing for divorce if her husband raised her hand towards her.

Firstly, where did the idea of her husband raising a hand come from? Secondly, whence did the divorce perception spring? Well, their favorite channels are Telemundo and Novela E. The girls have been enticed!

So many gospel artists as well are releasing album cover art with their thighs showing, and breasts peeping. Their videos have them wearing mini-skirts as though the original gospel preached exempted the Christians in America! The pants are too tight for some male figures, and they too are showing off their chests, causing to stumble lustily their fans that behold them.

They’ve been enticed! O they’ve been enticed! Clearly their inspiration hasn’t been God but another spirit from the world!

And when we are enticed and we consent, we suffocate God’s blessings; Psalm 1 talks of how we are enticed and how consenting goes; walking in the counsel of the ungodly (how it’s portrayed in the movies and songs) — standing in the path of SINNERS (we have parked at the news stations making us aware of murders and rapes and things that fill us with more anxiety robbing us of the good things that God’s done for us, even His word) and then we sit in the seats of the scornful (we begin questioning God’s reign and sovereignty; we question the very being who has given us the ability to even question: ‘What are you doing Sir? Claiming to be God and yet all this evil runs rampage down hither?’)

O, then we lose it! We then curse God! Then we get into thinking He’s not good! And how can He be otherwise! We judge Him — and we’ve already sinned by doing so: by believing He’s not good!

But! Do not CONSENT! See the red flags! Flee like Joseph! Let His word be your guide! Flee sexual immorality! Flee perverse lips and language! Your father is holy, and so you too must be holy!
