man-of-godism 2: timing

In January, I had visions of mantles raining. The red ones represented the old anointings. The blue ones represented new ones: those that no eye had seen. I drew the impressions in my journal and kept it at that.

On October 26th, I was led to attend a service which the Holy Spirit interrupted. The preacher didn’t preach any sermon. The whole session turned into a consecration and setting-apart event. As people wept and rolled and prayed, the man of God behind the pulpit prophesied the return of old anointings. Those such as Elijah’s, where one man is an entire country’s defense — its horseman and chariot, leaving its entire army singular.

Now God’s power was evident, but I boasted of having seen the vision earlier in the year. Days later, as I revealed this to my friends, the Holy Spirit beckoned me to calm down and to render to Caesar what belongs to Caesar

At some point, I thought, I saw the visions before that man of God…

The Holy Spirit replied, “You didn’t see it earlier. The vision was outside time. Earthly time is all ‘present’ to me. As it was in January, so it is now. Imagine a house with one huge room and two French windows: one on the extreme left and the other on the right. The windows represent different times, but the room’s the same. Yes, you walked through the right door, and the preacher entered by the left; but the content was all the same — mantles. He wasn’t late. You weren’t early. But it was predestined that you see the vision in January. According to your individual timeline, it had to be so.”

The praise had slowly started getting to my head, and everyone I was sharing with was replying how anointed I was. “I honor what’s on your life man of God. You even saw this way earlier…”

“Lastly,” the Holy Spirit added, “don’t forget, that it is I who gives these visions and grants you access to the realm unseen. It is I and not your own power.”

The last one hit hard. What ‘men of God’ often forget, is the real reason behind all these miracles, and that alone can lead to pride, which comes before a fall. Rendering the Spirit the glory due Him will keep you from getting puffed up. And the comparison I had done? Well, that’s how small insignificant fights between pastors or churches start. You ought, to instead come from the perspective of the oneness of the Spirit, and the confirmation of His vision (for example, for my vision, and what was happening on the grounds) as opposed to flaunting.

I had received opportunity to attend Uncle Mark’s wedding (a popular Ugandan comedian), earlier in August. Friends of the groom were invited to give a speech, and the representative wasn’t ready yet, unlike the bride’s friends. I quickly told Him to read Psalm 128 for the couple. Two hours later, this very same preacher – Apostle Grace – showed up. In His speech, He stressed how much He’d been praying for the couple,

“…and this is the message the Holy Spirit gave me pertaining your marriage. It comes from Psalm 128.”

There was utter surprise on many faces including I. The lad who gave the groom’s friend’s speech turned my direction dumbfounded!

“You saw the future.” Many praised. “Wow Biggie, you’re deep.”

But in the time the Holy Spirit was teaching me the earlier lesson, He reminded me of this day.

“That as well was to portray or concrete the matter of that scripture concerning the couple, but not to make you a superstar.”

By now His chastising was as a rod not spared. It wasn’t about who said it or saw it first. Perhaps the couple needed to know the seriousness of this word over them. Perhaps they missed it as an usher came to ask them a question in regards to the other speeches at the time when the groom’s friends were speaking. I can’t tell.

But in your journey as a minister of God, may your ability of having seen it earlier or said it earlier never spur attention to yourself. Rather, let God take His glory. And may He keep you from ‘this falling’ as He promised He would.

Jude 1:24-25 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, [Be] glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.
