Ministry of Presence 2: Face to Face

2 John 1:12 Having many things to write to you, I did not wish [to do so] with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

In part one of this article, I spoke about Job’s friends showing up when he was mourning. In today’s setting, most of us call or text or WhatsApp or send condolences electronically. But if we were living in the days of far yore, we’d find ourselves travelling to be present for others when they lost a loved one, or if they’d just gone through something terrible.

My beg and call is that we don’t stop at only digital presence. Except — ofcourse, if one is quite really far, like in a different continent.

But, the fact that John states that he wouldn’t write some stuff but needed to be there in person — spoke to me that we don’t necessarily need to see others only over very urgent matters; and the reason he gave is something I believe we can all witness to: That your joy may be FULL!

When we meet face to face, we are not only joyful, but our joy is full.

Our joy being full is equivalent to us not wanting to leave when the meeting time has elapsed. It causes us to look forward to the next meet.

Phone calls, texts, can all — yes add some bit of joy, but it’ll be a pinch or a shadow of complete joy. Check your joy levels, and if you feel they are short, try seeing your dear ones, or best friends face to face. Your joy cup will be full to the brim and your heart will find itself in an empyreal place of satiation.

This mustn’t be a thing for only extroverts by the way. It must be looked at as a human thing.

If a co-author of the Bible has opted for face-to-face, then I think it’s indeed profitable for all relationships.

Apply this for yourself now — with a better understanding, and see how your joy gets fuller.

Au revoir!

3 John 1:13-14 I had many things to write, but I do not wish to write to you with pen and ink; but I hope to see you shortly, and we shall speak face to face. Peace to you. Our friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.
