Isaiah 58:10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:
I remember Jesus dying, and darkness covering the sky at noon. Many say He was bearing your sin (and that of the world), thus God would not behold Him. Whereas that happened, Isaiah speaks contrary:
This Isaiah 58 context is about fasting and its repercussions. He stresses that when we do, our revelation rises. That, and also we get to stand out of obscurity; at our workplaces, in school, and in the market place.
Now about this darkness being as noonday, the picture that comes to mind is you going through something so dark or dire or discouraging. But, because of your light having sprang forth, the revelation you bear will disannul the pain, the trauma or effects of whatever you’re going through.
Even in the darkest tunnel, you’ll find something to be grateful about. You’ll find something to smile about. Like Joseph, when you thought what had been done to you was terrible, you’ll realize it all was working for your good!
You’ll see good where there’s only bad. You’ll see oases and tarmacs in wildernesses and deserts. For if your darkness is as noon, then it seems that your world has been defined as one whose sun never sets. Your running out of money can’t even be evident. Why? You’ll still look superb. You’ll still have fuel to drive. For your lowest moments will be as high moments. Your darkness will be like noon. Bright! No evidence of night at all!
It’s like darkness or lowness has been erased from your vocabulary. And indeed it has. You’ll be like places near the north pole. There, even at 2am, the sun is still up! People will say “It’s supposed to be dark. You’re supposed to be broke according to the economy now.” You yourself know it’s supposed to be. But by virtue of positioning, you operate in your own world, under a different grace. By virtue of your positioning (as you fast), the darkness won’t come as it does everywhere else.
It’s light everywhere. It’s prosperity everywhere, and everyday. The sun never sets. Your tree is green throughout the year. Even in scarcity of the earth, you still bear fruit. Yes the heat comes, but you don’t see it. You don’t feel it’s pinch! As soon as you use up your last dollar, your account gets credited!
Instead of looking forward to the light at the end of the tunnel, you realise, that you’re the light within the tunnel.
Ladies and gentlemen, that’s what it means for your darkness to be as noonday!
