Habakkuk 2:3 For the vision [is] yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.
Haggai 1:2 “Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, saying: ‘This people says, “The time has not come, the time that the LORD’s house should be built.”‘”
In today’s references, the earlier scripture talks about an appointed TIME for a vision to happen. The latter speaks of a vision whose appointed time has come and is becoming due, but the people think it is not that time yet. God asked the prophet saying, “Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?”
This comes as a very critical issue pertaining each of us, as it speaks of time. Many times we want to be early for things, but this portion teaches that it is possible to be late for a particular event thinking it isn’t its kairos yet.
“So?” I asked God, “what must one do, not to miss the appointed time for something?”
God reminded me about the sons of Issachar:
1 Chronicles 12:32a,b of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred;
These had an understanding of the times. And the result; they knew what Israel had to DO, concerning a particular time. Even Matthew concretes, that once we understand, we become fruitful.
Matthew 13:23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
If we don’t understand the seeds of the season, the enemy can snatch the indicators of the times from us. He’s like a roaming lion looking for who to devour:
Matthew 13:19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside.
It’d be a prophecy, and it’d be forgotten, being rendered powerless to its recipient. Imagine it was Pharaoh’s dream. Joseph in this case would have been a son of Issachar.
Understanding is the application of both wisdom and knowledge. Wisdom (Chokmah for Hebrew) is the ability to judge right and to follow the best course of action basing on knowledge or the right application of knowledge.
Wisdom was when Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream. This wasn’t just interpretation, but the right exegesis. Knowledge was the knowing that seven years of abundance had already began, and those of famine were soon. Understanding was the advice given: saving a fifth of all harvest (food and grain) during the years of plenty — the best course of action.
Proverbs 8:12,14 says, “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out knowledge [and] discretion. Counsel [is] mine, and sound wisdom; I [am] understanding, I have strength.” And elsewhere it’s written that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
Since He’s the maker of time, it’d not be appropriate for any of us to think we could interpret time without Him. The enemy himself could trick us into the wrong interpretation, and have us miss the right course of action. Perhaps we too will be like the people who thought it wasn’t time. The enemy will make us think it isn’t time yet, and in turn delay us much more than the appointed time.
May the inward witness of God’s Spirit shake you up and move you to act accordingly as per the heavenly calendar for every activity you’re meant to fulfill. May He redeem your time, and restore that time that could have been eaten by cankerworms and locusts. May your eyes see and may your heart discern every season, and its name, and its purpose.
Amen
