Subtle Devil Cultures

A friend shared a flyer saying ‘Happy Easter family’, but it had colored eggs in all forms of gold and blue hues.

I thanked him, but I don’t remember eggs playing any role in the reconciliation of God and man. I don’t remember them being crucified!

His was not the only flyer with eggs by the way!

The more years pass by, we see less artwork depicting circular stones rolled off tombs, and more of eggs and easter bunnies! I even wonder the relationship between eggs and a rabbit that doesn’t lay them!

This is not the only culture shift being adopted by Africans by the way. We’ve seen mangers being replaced by a big fat Santa Claus dressed in red and white on Christmas E-cards. In the long run, our children put their faith in a man with an immense white mane who can get them a present they long for. I call it being broke.

It doesn’t help a parent overhearing their child’s desire and secretly buying that gift and placing it beneath the Christmas tree at 2am, convincing their child that Santa placed it there during the night. That only thrusts greater their trust in this character even the more. They begin praying to Santa and not God. It ends up being Santamas and no longer Christmas. And that’s wrong in all directions!

Now the west can retain their culture, but we ought to sieve and discern these matters. We — meaning Africans or Christians.

You see, that’s how King Solomon began. Even if he had provoked God to come down heaven and bestow the gift of wisdom upon him, he compromised. He married an Egyptian princess yet law was clear that Israelites ought not to marry from without. In the long run, the charm of this lady made him fall for her god. Whichever it was, Oris or Isis, she must have told Solomon things like, ‘If you love me, then you must come offer sacrifices with me at least this once.’

Solomon obtained more women. And each of them diverted him from the one true God. The kingdom in the end was torn from him. He himself wrote in the end ‘vanity of vanities.’

It always begins with ‘I’ll try it this once…’

It could be peer influence, and before you know it, one is in way too deep — addicted to the bottle or weed.

Some colleagues defended the eggs, that they represent ‘new life’, according to ChatGPT. That this is traced back to the days of Mesopotamia where eggs were dyed red to replicate the blood of Christ.

Okay, if so, why are the colors random these days? I see purple and green and black. And that aside, where did the bunny come from?

We have to have an understanding of these lest we begin to celebrate what we don’t know and mislead an entire generation. Some kids just know about the bunny now and the actual hero has been thrown into obscurity. This feels like attending a wedding and the attention being taken by someone other than the actual bride and groom — perhaps the emcee or the biggest financial contributor or family member.

Would it be okay, if these people receive greater applause and confetti than the main celebrants? If you cheer louder for them than the new Mr & Mrs, then something is definitely wrong.

Let’s ask questions before we participate in odd customs uncommon to us. It’d be funny having the American flag being waved on 9th October in Uganda. Reason being it isn’t the 4th of July.

We must not be ignorant of the devil’s devices. On International Women’s day, the star has remained the same; and that’s the woman. Why is it that on Jesus-themed days, we see contrary super stars!

It’s all fishy.

It’s all diversion from truth, the same trick that has been as old as the garden of Eden: where we are told that we will not surely die when we eat of the fruit of good and evil. And before we know it, we are already dead!

Understand something’s origin before you can fully engage in it. For you’d be participating in idolatry. Up to this day, I still don’t understand how the rosary came about. Yes my Catholic father made us wear them, but I don’t see Jesus recommending it in His word, or any of the apostles suggesting we intercede through Mary…

I’m not condemning anyone. I’m only asking questions. And I hope you do as well.

May the gift of discernment by the Holy Spirit open up our senses to assertiveness and guard us against any unholy themes that could skid us off the path of righteousness, or make us fall in our faith.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,

1 Peter 5:8 Be SOBER, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
