This Psalm is entitled the Psalm of Solomon. Meaning it was Solomon’s. It was dedicated to him. David was speaking into the life of his new born son. We are not sure whether he spoke these before he was born or not. But what’s certain is … ‘HE SPOKE!’
I’d like you to see how what he spoke came to pass, so that we can be gratified by the power of prophecy.
Psalms 72:2-4 He will judge Your people with righteousness, And Your poor with justice. The mountains will bring peace to the people, And the little hills, by righteousness. He will bring justice to the poor of the people; He will save the children of the needy, And will break in pieces the oppressor.
David wasn’t quoting from a Bible that he had. No! The Bible was not bound as yet. He was speaking what he wanted to see. We saw how Solomon brought justice to the poor, and how he saved the children of the needy.
In 1 Kings 3, Solomon was approached by two women. One slept on her baby and killed her. She then stole another lady’s baby and swapped it with the dead one. When the rightful mother inspected that baby, she discovered it wasn’t hers. Hers had been kidnapped. Now when she took the case to the king, the kidnapper agreed when Solomon proposed that the baby be cut in half and be shared amongst them.
That’s how Solomon got her. A true mother would not allow her child to be sliced. The one who opposed the action, Solomon discerned, was the rightful mother. In this session, we see the prophecy of ‘bringing justice to the poor,’ and ‘saving the children of the needy’ coming to pass.
King David went on to say, ‘They shall fear You As long as the sun and moon endure, Throughout all generations. He shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing, Like showers [that] water the earth.’ (Psalms 72:5-6)
When you read 1 Kings 3:28, we can attach this fear’s fulfilment to how the rest of the people reacted after hearing Solomon’s judgement of the matter… ‘And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had rendered; and they FEARED the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God [was] in him to administer justice.’
See how David’s prophecy over his son is coming to fulfilment!? When you skip over to verses 7 and 8, they say, ‘In His days the righteous shall flourish, And abundance of peace, Until the moon is no more. He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, And from the River to the ends of the earth.’
No where in the Bible does it say that Solomon fought a war or a battle. Even when his other brother tried to ascend to the throne, he didn’t raise a finger. He didn’t sweat to be coronated, and that abundance of peace accompanied his reign and the entire kingdom under his leadership. See more evidence;
1 Kings 4:20 Judah and Israel [were] as numerous as the sand by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking and rejoicing.
The people drunk and rejoiced for there was no war!
1 Kings 4:21 So Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the River[to] the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. [They] brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life. Verse 24 For he had dominion over all [the region] on this side of the River from Tiphsah even to Gaza, namely over all the kings on this side of the River; and he had peace on every side all around him.
I do not know what idea you have dominion. To me, part of it is accruing wealth and respect to one in a field or country. Notice how this was all spoken into being by David in verse 7 & 8 of Psalm 72. If I was you I’d be positioning myself to speak over my unborn children, or over myself!
David continued …
Psalms 72:10-11 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles Will bring presents; The kings of Sheba and Seba Will offer gifts. Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; All nations shall serve Him.
Well, we all saw the Queen of Sheba visit Solomon offering great gifts! (1 Kings 10:10) All kings served him! (1 Kings 4:27)
Psalms 72:15-16 And He shall live; And the gold of Sheba will be given to Him; Prayer also will be made for Him continually, [And] daily He shall be praised. There will be an abundance of grain in the earth, On the top of the mountains; Its fruit shall wave like Lebanon; And [those] of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.
We saw Solomon make gold and silver as common as stones! He was praised by many kings! ‘There was no lack in their supply’ is what 1 Kings 4:27 says… The point is, every bit, every letter of prophecy that David spoke over Solomon came to pass.
Psalms 72:17 His name shall endure forever; His name shall continue as long as the sun. And [men] shall be blessed in Him; All nations shall call Him blessed.
Shortly before David concludes, he spoke the fame of Solomon! His name has indeed endured. It hasn’t gone off the charts like musicians who come and go. Every human, that’s educated at least, has heard of some guy called Solomon from the B.C age.
And in Psalms 72:20, David clarifies for us once more what he was calling this… ‘The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.’
This had been a prayer, in form of prophecy, but no point in time did David ask God to…
He didn’t ask God to make his son famous. He didn’t ask God to make the kings bow to him. He instead acknowledged God and spoke in His presence. I’d call it ‘reasoning with God’. God then, had to give Solomon an attribute that caused all the prophecies of his father over him to come true. He gave Solomon wisdom, and with it, all these were added unto Him.
If this happened for a man who wasn’t ‘born again’ then how much more you!
On the other hand, what spoke to me was the consecration of a child by a parent. Solomon asked for wisdom, not knowing that this was the answer to his father’s cry, and the key to the fulfilment of the prophecies. Maybe you’ve received a gift, but you do not know that it is the one by which all your parents’ and grand parents’ prayers shall be answered… (Selah)
We’ve seen the power of speaking from the days that God said ‘let there be light…’ to the days where Idahosa said there would be no witches’ meeting!
The result? There was light, and there was no gathering of 9800 African witches!
This same power lies in your tongue!
Frame your world today by speaking what you want to see! Don’t stop till it becomes a reality, just like it did for Solomon, from his father’s mouth! And the only difference between those who get what they speak and those who don’t, is that those who do, have spoken it many, many times.
Why is this so? It’s hard to believe a crazy prophecy if it’s been spoken once. From my own experience, I’ve realized that the more I speak it, the more it becomes ‘normal’ to me. This ‘normal’, I find, has either neutralized the impossibility probability, or has influenced my environment to respond to what I am saying, since I’m a god (Psa 82:6)
Though David’s prophecy to Solomon was recorded, no where are we told how many times David prayed through it! This backs up my theory of speaking many times.
Whatever the factors, wherever you are in life, remember the one thing David did that was certain … ‘HE SPOKE!’
More importantly, focus on what he spoke! He didn’t speak what he was seeing. He wasn’t complaining about how he couldn’t afford commodities. He spoke what he wanted to see. It included favor, affluence, abundance, influence, and dominion for his son! … And it all came to pass!
What do you want to see?
Speak!
It shall all come to pass!
