Overtaken

Deuteronomy 28:2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and OVERTAKE you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God: …

The word ‘overtake’ means; To pass a more slowly moving object or entity (in travel) • To become greater than something else (in economics) • To occur unexpectedly; take by surprise and overcome; or to carry away.

When Moses said ‘these blessings would overtake you’, He meant, your speed would be too slow for them. They’d go ahead of you, pretty much like a convoy announcing the president’s coming. This means these blessings already ran into your July while you still resided in June. They overtook you like a Subaru driver on the Ugandan roads.

They are already stationed strategically in your 2023, your 2024, and all years ahead before you get there. When you get there, you’ll only be saying ‘Indeed, God crowns the year, the month, the day, with His goodness!’ That’s why I like saying, ‘Goodness and mercy have caught up with me with all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the House of the Lord. Now and forever…’ That catching up is changing even as I speak, for I have discovered, that goodness and mercy have just accelerated to go ahead of me.

When I find myself being favored, and all things being good to me, I shouldn’t be shocked. The favor, the goodness have gone to prepare a way for me…just like Jesus said he had gone to prepare a mansion for each of us. He won’t start panicking once we reach Him. No. We’ll find each house already organised and polished, ready for us.

That’s the same down here. As you go for that interview, all things are ready for you—all you require for life and godliness, it’s already expecting you. This is called overtaking.

We also see that ‘to overtake’ means something else becoming bigger than one. This reminds me of the blessing that God said He’d pour out that would be too big for you to have enough room for it! It’ll overtake you, drown you & carry you away. The unexpected occurrence portion of the definition reminds me of Joseph. He was a slave, and suddenly, he was head of staff in Potiphar’s house (being in charge of all that Potiphar owned). To me, that was uncertain of all things. No slave is guaranteed such promotion, but Joseph proved otherwise.

This is what God means when He said these blessings would overtake you. You only need to know what blessings have gone ahead of you. Blessed are you in the city & in the country. This has gone ahead of you even before you start working officially. Blessed is the fruit of your womb. This has gone ahead of you in your marriage. You won’t face infertility.

Blessed shall be your basket and kneading bowl. Your workplace and store shall be plentiful. Blessed shall you be when you come in and when you go out. Whether you have been hired, or have quit, it shall be well. God’s causing of your enemies that come against you to be scattered in seven different directions is already a setting in your future, for any enemies that will dare to come up against you. This means you won’t need to fight back or pray them down. This blessing is a reality in your future.

The blessing that the good treasure of heaven would open up to you, that you’d lend and never borrow, it too has gone ahead of you. Things may not justify this truth now, but better believe it that in your future, in a while to come, you’ll lend to nations and not borrow.

In the song ‘Goodness of God’, the bridge says Your (God’s) goodness is running after, it’s running after me…’ But overtaking is way different. The word ‘follow’ might mean ‘being behind someone’… But its other meaning is ‘to pursue’. Pursuing also means locating. When the FBI seeks to locate someone, they don’t come from one direction but in all directions.

In the same way, His goodness and favor pursuing you, doesn’t mean they’re always behind you, chasing you. To me, they are about, above, below, to the side, to the front, alla round you, even AHEAD of you … like a big bubble or sphere, so that whichever direction you turn—west or east or north, up or down—this goodness and favor and blessings will already be infront of you in abundance! It’s like you’ll be their hostage/prisoner.

God’s goal is that you be surrounded within a one mile radius. A one month radius. A one year radius, a decade, a century, a lifetime’s radius! (Wow, thank you Jesus) If it’s a lifetime, this ceases then to be just a pursuit. These blessings then create an atmosphere … a firmament … a sky … A REALITY! Within which you live and move and have your being! The overtaking then ceases to be a race between you and goodness, but a dimension, a state, and the environment that defines your life!
