Apple of His Eye

Have you ever held a sharp object toward your eye? Have you seen a long pin come close to your eye? Just the thought of it is making the speed at which your adrenaline is vamoosing up and all over your body become hostile! Everything wants to protect this precious opening on your body. And your mind as well couldn’t stand the thought of partial blindness!

I once was riding a bike. We were racing as boys in the neighborhood, but I wanted to win, and so I took a shortcut through a hedge. A sharp stick from one of the cypress trees met my eye. A little further and I’d be blind in the left! But O for God’s mercy!

Only after horridly playing the picture of a sharp object come near your eye can you understand the magnitude of the phrase in Zechariah 2:8 that states, ‘he that touches you, touches the apple of His eye.’ In today’s terms, that’s the equivalent of the eye’s pupil. God is trying to say, you’re as precious as His very eye sight! Since you were made in His image, the way you react when a sword tip approaches your eye, is the same way He would if it approached His!

Of course, no sword is large enough to threaten God’s ginormous eye, but the lesson is in how all manner of reflexes trigger into manifestation to protect the eye. I am sure you’re saying you’d bear a cut on your arm or anywhere else, but not on your eye! The eye (unless by miracle) doesn’t automatically heal like your hand which has received over twenty cuts ever since you were born. Some of those scars have since disappeared, but not with the eye! One slice and the eye’s aqueous humor-liquid comes oozing out…and complications ensue!

You are so precious. So, very precious is what I’m trying to say. Irreplaceable on top of that (like the eye). For if hair is cut and it grows back, once the eye is cut off, it ‘don’t’ grow back! (Read that again with a black American’s accent) … unless by miracle. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE MAGNITUDE of your unparalleled-ness, exceptionalism, irretrievableness and pricelessness of who you are to God? …

For if you’d do anything to protect your eyes … then words can’t come close … to paint the perfect picture of what God would do, and to what lengths He’d go … to protect His eye (which is you)! Now Zechariah said He that touches you, touches God’s eye.

When that stick poked my eye, I was sooooooo enraged that I would have burnt the entire hedge down if it wasn’t my parents’. I broke multiple branches of it instead. Now if I reacted that way, how cynical and unreasonable will God get when they ‘touch’ you! I worry for your enemies! I do!

The least I can compare them to is how the Egyptians suffered plagues of all manner when the Pharaoh ‘touched’ His Israelites. God drowned them into a sea. They became no more! The Jews in the book of Esther were ‘touched’ by Haman!

He went down along with his entire family, hanged by the very weapon he had constructed to kill the Jewish leader Mordecai.

There’s a subtle anger expressed by God when you His child, are treated the wrong way. Vengeance is His indeed. And you’ve seen a glimpse of what it can do!

It can sacrifice nations for you! NATIONS!

O how precious you are! I can’t fathom the magnitude!

Selah …

Because you are precious in my sight and honored, and I love you, I will give people in exchange for you and nations instead of your life. (Isa 43:4)

He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. (Deut 32:10)
