1 Corinthians 14:2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands [him;] however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
The word ‘mystery’ means something secret or ‘unknown’. Need I say that if one prays in the normal tongue they are speaking ‘known’ things. Even the demons know what is being said. Of course things are different if authority accompanies those words, like how Jesus kicked legion into those pigs.
However, the point in knowledge that God would like to bring us to today, is further clarified below;
Matthew 13:10-11 And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?” He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.
Tongues are also in a way parables, just like the stories Jesus told His disciples. They are not understood unless INTERPRETED by the very same spirit that gave them. Jesus says (in the scriptures above) that the kingdom of heaven has many mysteries.
I know King Solomon said there is nothing new under the sun. But he never spoke in tongues. One dimension of the Spirit—wisdom—rested upon him, but the Holy Spirit as a WHOLE person didn’t. Which is okay; just to get us thinking, if just having a fragment that small of God made Solomon that great, how much more us who have received Him in all His fullness!
Solomon didn’t speak unknowns. He understood the way of man, from the circles of life, and came to wise conclusions. Another definition of mystery is ‘truth not understandable by the application of human reason alone (without divine aid)’ Many of Solomon’s proverbs were easily understood with human reason alone, but there’s no way you can understand Paul’s letters easily without divine aid. Without the Holy Spirit Himself.
Of course both Proverbs and Ephesians were inspired by the Holy Spirit, but one does not call for as much mysterious intellect as the other! The Bible once said the latter shall be greater than the former. Those to come by default must shine brighter than those who came. It’d be useless to have a less greater in the future, than in the past.
The path of the just shines brighter and brighter unto a perfect day. To sum this all up, if we’d place all the just on one same path, it only means that the just in 2022, must be brighter than those in 100AD
It only makes sense since Jesus Himself said greater works than He did would we do, hence Paul. You MUST do greater than Paul did. It’s the law of greater works that Jesus left in operation by His word. Just like Jesus’ star shone brightest on His birth, ours too do so immensely, attracting kings and nations to our light.
Paul says he spoke in tongues more than most of the members of the churches he wrote too. Do you marvel that he wrote almost half of the new testament? Well, He spoke many ‘unknowns’. As He prayed in tongues, the Spirit enabled him understand (by divine aid) many dots. He then connected them together and shared them with us.
God was emphasizing to me that to each one of us is given mysteries. Before they are given to us, they are unknown. Once they are downloaded in our minds during prayer in tongues, they become known to us. But unless we share them, they’ll remain unknown to the rest of the world.
This was the danger we would have faced if people like Paul didn’t write what they understood. If John didn’t write down his vision, none of us could have known anything about Revelation. What had been unknown is no longer unknown. We know how Christ the Lord will return, and how a new world will emerge!
The far future is no longer a mystery!
The caution in all this, is not just to continue in fervent tongues, but to come to the full power of the ability to transform a mystery into something tangible, something that can be felt or seen or heard, in a non-parable-way.
I too was as puzzled as you were when the Lord told me that. He also said, mysteries can cease to be unknown according to which method the receiver of a specific mystery chooses to manifest. For example, He said, mysteries can be songs, they can be books, they can be houses, they can be clothes, they can be art, they can be a business, they can be a video, they can be prophesies…whatever it is, ensure today, to find the best way that God wired you to be able to share your mystery with the world.
Some might say they are not good public speakers and yet they are good writers! Remember that if Paul hadn’t written, we’d have nothing after 2000 years! Whichever passion you have, may the Holy Spirit use it to convey and manifest your mystery.
John could have died with the apocalyptic visions, but God taught Him the art of writing. Perhaps you claim not to be a great writer, but we see that great mysteries have been discovered and shared with us, through this art. All in all just to say, let not your mystery die with you.
God is sharing you a new thing today. He’s giving you a prophecy, an understanding of His word that the world has not seen or heard. What will you do about it? Get excited all alone? Of course not. He said write the vision upon the stone tablets so that he that reads it might run.
Basically, the primary channel to manifest mysteries is writing. Many have been blessed by such these writings of mine. I imagine if I never didI’d be an ocean of revealed things that could not be accessed like hidden treasure under the sea. Equally, God has deposited things in you equatable to gold & silver—wisdom & understanding.
You seeing Jesus in Job, isn’t a light thing! You seeing the baker who was murdered by the Pharaoh in Joseph’s prison cell as Jesus isn’t a light thing. It was an unknown of the kingdom of heaven. Share it! Help those whose eyes haven’t seen it! Tell it!
In the book of Acts, whenever many came to the saving knowledge of Christ, the first evident gift of the Holy Spirit (as if to say the bare minimum) was speaking in tongues.
It is like as if this gift is for all. It is said this is the only new gift of the Holy Spirit that was not in the Old Testament. Make the most of it. Download the mysteries as you speak, and share them (manifest them) with the world! For we’ve realised, many of us receive a unique mystery that no one else has encountered.
