Ministry of Helps

In 2019, a sister-friend called Rita (Nunu) telephoned me.

“Where are you? Come with your pens quick. We are in need of your writing skills!”

I quickly moved. Half an hour later, I was where she was. Her boss was getting married. Whilst the bride was getting frustrated over who’d write the names of invitees on their cards, my sister was in the room, and quickly she summoned me.

I did a great job such that I was called again for the next cards by the bride’s relatives. I earned some good money.

Rebekah is another who helped his son Jacob to steal the blessing from Isaac. (Of course Isaac thought he was blessing Esau) but if you read the story, Esau had gone out to hunt game.

Rebekah remembered the prophecy about Jacob ruling over Esau. Isaac needed to eat goat the way he liked. But what better person knew this but his own wife. She did the cooking, and adorning Jacob to impersonate Esau. Jacob seemed to have been amateurish. If he had done it on his own, Esau would have returned while he still fidgeted.

We all know how the story ends. But observe how much work Rebekah did. She didn’t want part of it, or any kind of reward, just like Nunu didn’t require any reward from me, but out of love, wished for me the very best; she did all she had to do, in order for me to receive the reward like Jacob.

Rahab protected two spies from among the Israelites that had been sent by Joshua. These imposed a threat to the Jericho dwellers, but she helped them, hid them until it was safe enough for them to flee.

The list goes on and on to the four friends who took their paralytic friend down the roof so that Jesus could heal him. O what great helps. I wonder if that man didn’t have those four!

Those with the gift of helps are those who can aid or render assistance to others with compassion and grace.

The Bible speaks of the gift of helps. The person with the spiritual gift of helps is someone who tends to work behind the scenes to get things done (Like how Rita did or how Rebekah connived to have Jacob there)

Here’s an article I found about helps;

“The individual with this gift will often do his/her job joyfully and take the responsibilities off of others’ shoulders. They have a personality that is humble and have no problems sacrificing time and energy (like Rebekah)

They even have an ability to see what others need often before they even know they need it. People with this spiritual gift have a great attention to detail and tend to be very loyal, and they tend to go above and beyond in everything. They are often described as having a servant’s heart.”

Now, this is mentioned to be a gift, from God (especially for the purpose of the church). His Holy Spirit I consider to be the primary helper, or help: We all know He was sent to help us in our weaknesses, in our remembrances, and in our general walk in the life of faith.

He helps us help many others around us through His love, to lighten loads for many, to extend love to many, to confirm His word, to fulfil destinies, to point the way, and for us to be objects of His guidance for others.

Know as well, that God will not only send you others’ way, but have some angels help you on your way! For it is in several individuals being helped, that when they come in a larger crowd (church), they’ll remember what God did for them through others, and they will do the same for others.

Even if it is not church in general. We’ve seen men who grew up in bad conditions, make it in life because a certain someone helped them out of their ditch. They in the end decide to help others who were once like them, and the chain of love keeps going, on and on.

Critically, we are all ministers of help!

1 Corinthians 12:28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

Matthew 7:12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.

1 Corinthians 13:2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing.
