A man once came home to whet the knives. He used whet steel, attached to pedals that he cycled, causing it to move and sharpen the knife.
As I observed the process, God conversed with me, saying, ‘Imagine the wheel was wooden, would the knife be whet?’
‘No,’ I replied.
‘Indeed. If you notice, the wheel is the same material as the knife. Iron sharpens iron. Steel sharpens steel. And men think they can be sharpened by the flesh?’
‘Whatever you mean?’ I asked God.
‘You see, man’s true identity is spirit, and I am Spirit. That is why man has a void only I can fill. Though man distracts himself with toys and flesh, that deep spirit within them still calls unto me. My word is Spirit too you know, for I am my word. Whenever man reads it, I get to sharpen that man’s spirit.’
I was awed…
You know like how the rich are inspired by the richer, I understand now why those in marriage can’t feel comfortable with getting advice from an unmarried (still single) person, it goes against the law. They must find a couple whose marriage is flourishing and be imitators or mentees of it!
If they walk with the unwise, then their marriage will look like that one of the unwise. The biggest point of today’s article is correlating how things of the same substance are licensed to sharpen each other.
Since whet steel is thicker in mass, it is more qualified to sharpen that whose mass is thinner. This is the Lord of all spirits willing to sharpen any spirit. The point was that man is a spirit, and God is Spirit. And only He is that ‘whet spirit’ every soul longs for

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.
Proverbs 13:20 He who walks with wise [men] will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.
Having read these, I recognized another factor required for sharpening to take place. Iron has to recognize iron in the other. The friend who sharpens must be recognized as a friend.
The feeling has to be MUTUAL! It won’t work, if I call you my friend, but you see me as a nasty servant. It won’t work if God’s word sees you as perfect, and yet you see His word as mere letters, powerless as those of the newspapers.
This goes back to the example I like giving. We can’t call it marriage if at the altar the man said yes but the lady said no. Both have to say yes, Or ‘I do’ when interrogated…
Is the point clear?????
Peter only sharpened into the rock of the church when He saw Jesus as the son of God. Elisha became the horseman of Israel when he beheld Elijah a specific way. Jesus saw something first in Peter, and Peter saw something in Jesus. Elijah saw something first in Elisha, and Elisha as well, perceived something in Elijah. Then the sharpening happened!
An apostle sharpened an apostle. A prophet sharpened a prophet! The word sharpens the word! For we are born again of … (1 Pet 1:23)

Just like iron sharpens iron, remember that all humanity bears a spirit. That means spirit has to sharpen spirit. The Word of God is spirit & truth. It is the authorized sharpener for our spirits. Anything else—blunt things just. Okay—I’m done…
