Stirring Agents

If you’ve been a christian for a long time, you know you’ve had prayer seasons. I don’t mean you prayed much in January and less in July (though this is true as well). What I mean is, some days it is so easy to pray.

You literally feel the Holy Spirit wake you up, drag you out of bed and get your tongue moving with ease. Sometimes you’ve found your desire to pray much stronger than your desire to sleep. And oh how it’s been sweet to pray.

However, there are those times when you didn’t feel like it! How about when you slept off, yet His word says ‘Pray without ceasing’? (I know the flesh can over-over sometimes, but) What did you do? (Kindly type in the comments section so that I know what you did but, in the meantime,) Allow me share what the Spirit taught me today.

Patience is a good virtue. In an hour I was supposed to be praying, I felt no uttering. I stared long around the room. Firstly, He said, waiting on Him is a good start. Refusing to move away, is what I mean. Many of us quickly move on to the next program abandoning that place.

Stay. Wait. Listen. Like Jacob said ‘I won’t let you go till you bless me…’ we can decide to say, ‘I’m not leaving until I’ve prayed!’

As I glued myself on the seat, I (lazily but attentively) flipped through the Bible pages, gathering some scripture here and there. As He taught me a thing hither and thither, my tongue moved for a minute or two. Then stopped.

He continued to show me in the word some beautiful things. And by the time I was done being taught, my tongue was on fire, as I prayed in tongues uncontrollably. See, it’s a working of His, for we may not know what to pray for in a specific time, but He is our intercessor (according to Romans 8) hence He makes it all easy.

Waiting, His Word, worship music (too) are some of the other great things I’ve seen Him use to stir me up to go into that place of intense prayer! Stirring as well comes when we listen to sermons He’s led us to, and midway, when we hear what He wants us to, we bubble inside to a sweet prayer time. A friend once said, for her she begins with giving thanks for different things, and before she knows it, she’s on that 120kph prayer gear…

These are some of what I’d share today. They’ve been great prayer catalysts when the prayer ‘blues’ kick in…

Hope to hear yours as well.

Romans 8:14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
