The Bible says, God gives those who He loves sleep. Many times, I run to bed on a threat, that sleep would influence me longer to stay in, when I have to awake and rouse myself unto God, say in prayer or in reading the Word.
To my disappointment, that wasn’t so.
You see He said He would work in us, both to will and to do all for His good pleasure. Meaning when we awake, it’s Him waking in us and us, to rise and pray (not necessarily in the midnight hour or 3 a.m) but whenever He requires it of us.
Let me just go straight to the point.
If indeed God gives those who He loves sleep, His Spirit made it clear to me, that He is in position as well, to take that sleep away when He wants to talk to us with our consciousness active. [Sometimes it is weird to talk to someone on phone for long when they don’t say back a word. It becomes a monologue.]
If one insists on sleep, like I have sometimes, I have seen Him take it away again later. “It’s time to pray…”
Even if rebellion might have an upper hand, it’s something else to see sleep take a shape of a ghost and stand far up off your bed and say, “Hey man, obey Master. Even I can’t disobey Him. The winds obeyed Him. I risk myself if I defy!”
Whether in anger or exasperation, God wins. (Isn’t He full of humor!) I kick the blanket off or sometimes, I find that He has already rolled it off me, honorably, as He stands by the bed post awaiting my awakening…
Funny guy!
