Like gold or any other precious ore, it won’t be found lying around on the ground. It has to be drilled out from deep in the ground. These ores are not found merely on top of the earth.
God is like a precious ore. Though He made all that you see, He won’t be found that easily and I’ll explain why! If God wasn’t to be searched for, then scriptures like ‘seek and you’ll find’ would not have been written.
There’s something about something being hidden that has to be mined or searched out. Remember that merchant in the bible who discovered a pearl so precious! He sold ALL that he had in order to purchase it.
God is that precious as well. Why gold is precious is because it is not common or in other words, lying about easily. People tend to take for granted what’s common to them. Some people waste food, because they always have plenty of it.
They can never know how starvation feels, so they may never treasure it. They might think food is always available & accessible. That’s not so for a child who’s grown up on the streets or in a war torn country.
In the same way, if God created what men could treasure, it would only be a disappointment if the maker of treasures isn’t a treasure or treasured Himself.
To avoid this, He conceals Himself—He hides Himself so that He too can be desired, so that He too can be mined, so that He too can be longed for, just like a deer pants for water in drought.
This hiding is not in vain. You see, your glory increases the more you search Him out, and His glory increases the more He hides. Why? Well …
Proverbs 25:2 [It is] the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings [is] to search out a matter.
There’s a law of glory at work here. The more hidden God is, the more glorious He is. (Just like the deeper one drills into the earth, the more gold they find). Equally, the more seeking you are of Him, the more glorious & rich you become (just like one who finds more tonnes of gold).
God has to be treasured so much by you in order for you to radiate and reflect his glory (just like the shine of gold shimmers over someone’s face). So don’t grow weary searching Him out. There’s more in Him!The creator of universes surely has much to reveal to you in your entire lifetime.
And just like gold is found in the ground, God as an ore, has a ground as well, out of which He can be mined and that’s the ground of His Word.
More mining equates to more time with His Word.
Extra hours with His Word will result in extra discoveries of His person and His wealths.
So…
Keep mining!
