Song of Solomon 2:1-2 I [am] the rose of Sharon, [and] the lily of the valleys. As the lily among thorns, so [is] my love among the daughters.
Being a lily among thorns, to me looks like being green, when all around is yellow. It is being succulent when all around is cracked. It is being healthy when all around sickness invades!
Being a lily among thorns is, seeing all the good when it comes. It is bearing fruit in drought. It is prospering in all that you do whichever it is! It is thriving when the economy is depressed. It is profiting when everyone else is losing. It is being asked ‘how do you do it?’ when many fail at their attempts
Being a lily among thorns is, being blessed when all around is cursed. It is being joyful when all around is sad. It is being peaceful when all around is war. It is being righteous, when all around is sin. It is the kingdom of God expanding when the kingdom of the world is declining
Being a lily among thorns is, someone dying for you when you didn’t deserve it. It is someone taking on your disease when you didn’t prepare for it. It is someone taking a bullet for you when the enemy attacks. It is blooming out of this understanding that you are loved!
Being called a lily is to fathom, that even King Solomon in all his wisdom, could never come to the glory of the lilies’ arrayment (adornment), and yet they don’t toil nor bother about how they look like. It is to take no thought or worry or care, but to trust that He who created you will supply and sustain you exceedingly abundantly above all you’d ask or think!
Being a lily is to be watered constantly. A lily blooms in the presence of high humidity. Water to me would mean refreshment and an absence of thirst. Refreshment is the opposite of strife. Lilies can’t grow out of strife but love. An absence of thirst is the presence of Jesus. He said “Come and I will give you water which when you drink you’ll thirst no more.”
You are only a lily if you have Him in you! For if you do have Him in you, you’ll be refreshed and not thirsty for other things. Additionally, all those good things that have been mentioned from the start, you’ll see happening in you . . . or you’ve already seen happening around you!
