Bitter to Sweet

Exodus 15:22-26 So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they [were] bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah.

And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he cast [it] into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them, and said,

“If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I [am] the LORD who heals you.”

Jackie Hill Perry in her book ‘Gay Girl Good God’ talks about how she found herself a victim of same sex attraction. Yes she’d grown up in Sunday school, but nuh—Jesus was in a quiet corner inside her.

Later she met a lady who’d been praying fervently for her. And one time as she acted as a man towards another lady, a huge thief rumbled into the room they were. Suddenly she felt the need of another man; to protect her. To soothe her.

Jesus turned her situation around. He turned her life from bitterness to sweetness. She overcame her sin and eventually married a Preston. She was healed just like the scripture mentioned.

In that story, I noticed that the tree represented the cross on which Christ would be hanged. Herein is a subtle synopsis of the life of Jesus who would come and be thrown into your waters (Marah) and make them sweet

Because of Jesus, your life is sweet. It’s healed. You’re far better today than never before. If you haven’t received Him, your life will continue being bitter, sickly, lacking, and short. Accept Him today, for He took on your curse and the cause of all bitterness, and swapped it so that you’d enjoy His freedom, joy and peace!

Like Jackie, He will heal you, help you, and make sweet your bitter life! Try Him!

Galatians 3:13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, [ “Cursed] [is] [ everyone who hangs on a tree“]),
