This meme isn’t funny if you don’t know who John Wick is. John Wick (played by Keanu Reeves) is a movie character, who goes rogue when his dog is killed by some men. His ferociousness goes way out of the ceiling that he can’t be stopped.
He goes on to kill people using pencils even, all in the name of vengeance for his dead dog. He went through hell and high waters to kill every man connected to the dog’s killing.
Though wounded, I must say he succeeded in this mission! Thanos, that purple-ish character in the meme is another movie villain who snapped his finger and made 50% of the world’s population vanish. This must have taken John Wick’s dog too. So you can get the drift!
Many times, most times in fact — we treat God as this humble creator, sitting on his throne, all peaceful and haloed. We’ve forgotten his wrath. He too can be a John Wick—even worse.
Many Christians have cowered back as they conform with the world. With its traditions that are not in agreement with God’s Word. They seek the world’s acceptance rather than stand for truth. They then choose to be in harmony with man and yet discord with God.
Maybe we’ve forgotten what happens when God gets angry! We’ve forgotten what happened to the Israelites when they caused him a headache. God made the sea part. The Bible says mountains MELT in His presence! We are talking mountains!!
Psalms 97:3-4 says A fire goes before Him, And burns up His enemies round about. His lightnings light the world; The earth sees and trembles. God instructed the sea where not to exceed. He’s the same that made it turn up and swallow the Egyptians. His right hand is glorious in might.
I’m sure you’ve seen terrific descriptions of God in the Bible and you yourself got horrified! I have, and I have been quick to disregard those images of God.
I wanted to see the God of love, of justice, of protection, of provision. The sweet smiling, all rosy, all chubby God! Huh! It hit different when God told me, I needed to appreciate this image of Him too; “If you don’t understand that I’m the God of War as well, your enemies will always make you run for it! You have to understand that I do too have another side—another face.”
It was crystal clear.
Think about it. People who get shocked that I can sing are those who never knew that I could, and usually, it takes long to register in their minds. When a need for a musician rises, they may never look my direction, because of unknowing or unbelief. But if they know and are confident of that about me, I’ll get a chance to minister through music to them.
Now apply this to God. If you don’t know to what degree His fury can go, you’ll always be scared of your enemies, never looking to God for that ultimate protection. Psalm 97 was painting this kind of picture for me. Another facet of God was being unravelled to me.
Elijah must have had this confidence of the wrath of God that he stood before the prophets of Baal and contended with them. God indeed made it rain fire literally! Elijah must have read of the terrible deeds God was capable of, and believed that He was still capable of doing them in his day & life!I’m in awe of the God of war who’s still the most loving being you’ll ever encounter. C. S. Lewis said, and I paraphrase, that the same God capable of the most good, is the very same who’s capable of the worst evil.
This isn’t in a sense that God is evil, but imagine with me. . .The devil is considered the wickedest creature on earth. But in the end, prophecy declares that the devil will be destroyed by God Himself. Now why would I fear the wickedest thing and yet there is one greater than the wickedest thing. That truth only creates another ultimate being we ought to FEAR more!
From there, I draw more images; Of God appearing in a fire and making it burn to ashes the very soldiers who started it, and yet be cold to the three men that were thrown in it. This God made dumb the lions meant to eat a man, and when that man’s enemies were thrown in, the lions’ mouths opened.
I fear! I then fear for those who might rise against me. Perfect love casts out fear. This image of the most loving God being the same that provokes the highest awe-ful reverence creates confidence in me that He’ll shield me when I stand on His word, and when I contend with the prophets of Baal of this day!
God isn’t a boy. He isn’t a man. Yes His mercy endures forever, but He still is the same that made the earth open up and swallow thousands of people alive. The earth obeys Him. The winds obey Him. Why would I then trust body guards more than He!Death couldn’t hold Him.
He’s literally beyond the physical laws. Gravity He disobeyed when He walked on water! Why wouldn’t I put my trust in Him. When Elisha was being attacked, He deployed thousands of fiery chariots, which He didn’t even use, but instead caused the enemy’s army go blind! My oh my!
His nostrils emit steam hotter than magma. If He decides to come through to fight your battles, He’s going to leave a blood bath on the grounds! It’s going to be bloody messy! And with this understanding, I’m not afraid. No accident can scare me. His protection is first rate and superior. No evil shall befall me!
God told me to write a book against a vice. My own best friend told me I shouldn’t go ahead. That it’s a human right now that men practise that vice. “They’ll attack you.” He warned. But it was too late. I’d rather obey God than man. But more than that, I have seen too much of what He can do—too much of His wrath whose ounce is enough to set the entire globe on fire, not to trust in Him!
HE IS THE GOD OF WAR!
He doesn’t know John Wick. He doesn’t know Thanos. He can’t be compared to Superman! No villain can match Him. Get all of the wickedest schemers together, and still, God will only need to inhale, and all breath will escape the lungs of these adversaries.
What’s troubling you? Who’s threatening you? I pity them. It won’t end well for them. Sit, and let God war for you!
