Song of Solomon 2:14 O my dove, [that art] in the clefts of the rock, in the secret [places] of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet [is] thy voice, and thy countenance [is] comely.
As I read this, I picture the man telling the woman in this classic by King Solomon.
As it is said, if one person in a relationship is always filling the love account, and the other is not, there’s a drag staleness.
This is Jesus, telling His bride that her voice is sweet. That her face is beautiful. But notice He says ‘Let…’ (Let me see thy countenance. Let me hear thy voice)
And like all requests, there is reasons behind. ‘For…’ He continues to state why, ‘…sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely (beautiful)’
As a singer, one of the past things I struggled with, especially in high school, was believing that I sang well. Bullies said I sounded like a frog. But that’s not what Jesus says. He tells me the reason He wants to hear my voice.
IT IS SWEET.
When a man is madly in love, his girl might sound like frogs to many others, but he won’t give a damn. If you were his girl, his definition of sweet would be redefined. The only thing sweet to him would be your voice. Which Jesus is stressing here.
When I discovered this, my singing switches to romantic when I am away from crowds. Because I know I’ve come into the presence of that one guy, who it matters most to, even more than myself. And so, I turn the faucets of my vocal cords, and let him hear my voice.
This applies to you too. Maybe you yourself are convinced you’re not talented musically. But you don’t need to be for Him. Whatever it is, it’ll still be sweet. Notice He didn’t say He’d like to hear ‘your music.’
He said ‘voice’.
So? Whichever way you can, present as you feel. The bare minimum is; He has to hear your voice. Be it the whisper of hurt, or the smile of overwhelming joy. Jesus here exposes His vulnerability. Honey to Him isn’t sweet. It is your voice that is. It is like He feeds on it—the thing He looks forward to most everyday in His life!
Oh, how romantic! I’m already bubbling with ecstacy…mumbling words to Him. Go on! Do the same. Tell Him how your day has been. He didn’t say ‘you have to be worshiping me!’ He only said, ‘Let me hear your voice.’ He didn’t say ‘you have to be asking for forgiveness of your sins!’ He only said ‘let me hear your voice!’
LET ME—?
Is that the Prince of Peace, the Wonderful Counsellor, requesting? What?
Imma give it to Him!
Doesn’t He have better creations in these billions of galaxies to go to and COMMAND? Maybe there are! But He still appreciates them, and overlooks them, as something, someone (you) has a special key that it alone can fill His void.
This is the thing that makes me run to the secret place! The man delights in hearing my voice. And don’t get me started on the ‘let me see your face’ part! He indeed seals the truth that you are uniquely and wonderfully made.
Earlier I’d stated that if one person in a relationship is always filling the love account, and the other is not, there’s a drag staleness.
Your part is to LET & AVAIL. His part is to HEAR & SEE! And like every responsible lover, He always has a bouquet of flowers, a set of éclairs or perhaps a collection of car keys or a mansion one’s for you!
Sweet is thy voice! Let Him… Oh let Him hear it!
Comely is thy circumstance! Let Him… Oh let Him see you!
