Purpose over Aesthetics

I saw a photo of a man the other day. His eyes were so white without a spot or blemish or stain! I wished I had eyes that clean and immediately I heard God say, ‘Don’t your eyes see?’

I’ve seen popping arms and shoulders. Seemingly desirous and God would still say, ‘Don’t yours lift, write, help you with all manner of chores and art…?’

I’ve criticised legs. Thin ones mostly. Frail and weak they could be, and God would still say, ‘Don’t they move?’

Fat noses! I’ve heard many people mock Uganda’s artiste Chosen Becky! But ‘Doesn’t she breathe?’

Sometimes my eyes squint at teeth in disarray! God would smirk and exclaim;

‘Don’t they chew?’

The point of this particular blog is, to inform us of how we’ve deviated from purpose; the purpose of things. We’ve found many poisoned by ideas that their boobs are not big enough, or buttocks not round enough! But they don’t look at the fact that they are able to breastfeed, or sit with ease.

The world teaches us to esteem aesthetics (appearance) over purpose. It teaches us to worship the appearance of things rather than the purpose of things!

Yes your teeth could not be the whitest! Be glad you still have them! There’s someone toothless out there.

Your lips could be dark or cracked or humongous. Be glad they can help you talk. There’s someone dumb out there.

Your house doesn’t have tiles! Be glad it’s warm and not leaking. There’s someone without a roof over their head.

Your height could be below average! Be glad you can measure it. There’s someone paralyzed, unable to sit up.

Of course I’m not saying you don’t do what you can to improve how you look (on the things you can). But when frustration sets in, when the desired result seems far from unobtainable, look back, be grateful and choose to affirm purpose over appearance!
