Many Niles

That’s the River Nile as captured by a satellite from space above. Jesus said that if we’d believe on Him, rivers of living waters would flow out of us. (John 7:38)

This is a common mantra. But many miss the depth in it. In that regard, the Lord opened my eyes to this reasoning. He used the Nile. The Nile has been existing since time immemorial, appearing in pages and hieroglyphs of ancient civilizations dating 6000 years ago!

It occurred to me that firstly, the Nile has existed for long. If Jesus says rivers shall come out of you, in this comparison, He means, messages, inventions, ideas, books, songs, lineages, sermons, things will come out of you that will live for long. They won’t come today, and be forgotten in 10 years! No! 6000 years sounds more like it! They’ll travel long journeys and distances!

Another aspect that was brought to my knowledge, was that nations depended on the Nile. Wow. Egypt, Sudan,Uganda… These are thousands of tribes and tongues.

Through the years, they’ve received water for construction of pyramids and palaces, dams and drainages!

Its waters are blessed. I dont mean to brag, but if there was no Nile water, the mortar to lay together the pyramid bricks—even the bricks themselves—would not have been mixed.

In addition, these countries have received fish for food, water for irrigation, recreation and swimming, tourism, and electricity! Eons back, Uganda began exporting electricity to Kenya, as it was generating more than enough from the dams along the Nile!

The desert doesn’t exist along the Nile! That’s a whole new reality; that as Chad cries of the Sahara, those in Memphis can’t fully relate. And yet both of them are under the same climate umbrella. And yet Jesus said, rivers would flow out of you! Not one Nile not two, but to the number that you’d wish.

I envision myself having a Nile come out of me to the North, another to the East, to the South, to the West, to the North North West, and in all directions of the compass! The Nile is a great river on its own for every generation. Now imagine that times many. You’ll be great for many things, after all, that’s a promise of your father (Gen 12:2) set to be fulfilled for you also.

The Nile has been flowing for generations! I can’t imagine anything that can stop its flowing! The rivers that will flow out of you will stand the test of time, until the Lord returns (Phil 1:6)

Exciting though this all might be, there’s only one way by which these rivers will flow out of you—By the Holy Spirit (John 7:39) When Jesus said they would, He meant there was only one door, one portal, by which as many rivers would come out of you.

The Holy Spirit hovered over the waters before God spoke in the beginning. When He did, the Spirit gave life to every Word He said. No wonder God has ‘many rivers’ emanating out of Him—billions of both created and uncreated things. Now when you receive His same spirit, He gives life to all that you create, and also gives you access particularly to the uncreated! So that you too can create things that will outlive you.

Scripture says the Spirit knows the deep secrets of God. I’m convinced that’s how He shared the secrets of creation to Moses, making him write stories of men that existed centuries before him, when he wrote Genesis.

Who doesn’t quote King David today? Who doesn’t know Paul the Apostle? These are examples of men whom rivers flowed out! And men still drink from them today. Men still read them. They existed millennia ago and yet they are alive in this present age.

With the Holy Spirit in you, this is how your life is going to look like too both while you’re still here and when you’re gone! For the one who inspires rivers to come out of rocks and deserts, and living Words from mere men, and makes the ground give birth to mountains and living creatures, lives in you!

And because the Holy Spirit is in you, you’ll live long! You’ll leave a mark in every generation! Nations are blessed by you! You’re a source of life to many! Your impact goes beyond lands & peoples you’ve never heard of! You improve on the health of economies! You’re a gift!

You’re many Niles!

You are Rivers!

  1. Awesome! , and you become a mighty river my brother, roaring and overflowing the banks! Powering dams and irrigating hectares of farm lands. Turning deserts into oases. Bringing joy to the young and old.
