The Mystery Of Idolization

The manifestation of my wisdom and knowledge in God through His word has led me into certain spaces. Men have been impressed by it. Women have whispered about the Wise boy.

I’ve provided answers to questions someone my age couldn’t easily give. I’ve given counsel concerning convoluted scenarios. Yes, I’ve evidenced the antique word that says ‘I can be wiser than my teachers…’ (Psalm 119:99-100) and though this all has been of great significance to the church, there’s another subtle version to the story.

Last year God revealed it to me that one grows from being blest, to becoming a blessing and then finally being able to bless others. So I began practising this ‘blessing of others’ It worked! Commanding of blessing worked…and all who I prayed for received their requests! Hallelujah. Glory to God!

(The downfall begins…)

There are certain Christians who do not want to go into the Holy of Holies themselves! Some of them, since it’s been proven that my prayers work, stop relying on their secret places and instead run to Biggie all the time to bless them, to give them a bible verse and to pray for them!

“Man of God pray for me.” They say.

The first time, it was good. The second time, yes, third time….. Uhm ye-e-s (with a long face) the forth time (I’m tired!)

Why is it getting annoying?

There are two probable reasons;

It’s because we have taken responsibility to stand in the gap between those men and God.

Or… We have failed to point men to the source of the blessing.

‘Whatever do you mean Biggie?’

The first scenario here is seen being dealt with by Jesus. Yes, he could help the disciples and have mercy on their shortage of faith in the first days…(because o well, we all begin as spiritual babes) But as they dwelt with Jesus longer, a plethora of rebukes became his usual response to them.

It wasn’t in relation to God per se but it was a reaction to how they never grew in faith rich enough to rebuke some demons and yet they were observing Jesus more than the other normal followers.

‘O ye of little faith,’ he’d say. ‘How much longer must I dwell with you?’

My point here is; As we pray for people, we have to keep them accountable ensuring that they grow in their prayer journey. Yes we might rebuke their headache today but a month from now, or three, they must be in position to rebuke it themselves.

If not, you’ll be in danger of incessant nagging from those you pray for, or those you bless! You’ll begin growling and cursing when you see them call or send you a text message.

For blessing others, they have to know that they carry the source of blessing in them and even if at the point you command it on them, they have to ‘imitate you as you imitate Christ’.

The second scenario is when we tell men that if they have issues concerning prayer or need that they can tell us all about it and we pray FOR them. In the end, we don’t call for their participation… resulting into us mediating.

Mediating is us acting as mediators between men and God! We go into the Holy of Holies on their behalf. When Jesus died and rose again, He became the High Priest for all of us. Individually we are all priests. But not High Priests. Jesus is the High one, as he is the King of Kings, of which we are those Kings.

For mere men to perform mediating for other men isn’t trustworthy. Why? When those people offend us, we gain beef. Our prayers won’t be pure then. Mediating is different from interceding on the other hand. When interceding, we make mention of a request twice or more making heaven know that it is on high demand.

God desires to relate with men minus human intervention. Yes we can help one another desire spiritual growth, but at the same time, we shouldn’t let them stay in their ignorance and spiritual immaturity.

Let’s get out of the way! The veil was rent into two.

Our purpose is to point men to God. If we don’t, then we fall victim of idolization!

The other day, I noticed someone ask me to ‘bless them‘. The spirit of discernment came from under! I heard God say that this particular person was beginning to idolize me! Every time they got a need, I seemed to have the perfect prayer!

If I continued blessing her, that would become so selfish of me! I’m not the only child God has! He definitely would like to hear that lady’s voice and every other voice of his children. But if I stand in all the time, I get IRRITATED! In the end, my prayer isn’t as holy and springing out of love as it ought to be!

I’m sure you the reader has experienced what I’m addressing…or will do so soon as you increase in God! A word of caution: Point men to God. When they say ‘Brother you’re deep!’ Declare ‘Glory to God!’

‘Your prayers always work!’ Reply, Hallelujah.’

Try not to ascribe the credit to yourself. A sense of pride arises. God is the source of all the power you manifest. When you think it’s you, when you take credit for that gift of prophecy and so on…you fall victim of idolization.

You soon worship yourself or, the person you help out replaces you with God. Those who get nagged are forced to end or dodge the relationship. Those who love it soon start saying stuff like, ‘Bring 1000 dollars and I’ll pray for you!’ ‘Kiss my shoe and I’ll bless you!’ ‘Empty your bank account and I’ll tell you what God said…’ And so much more!

Only the person who pushes those he or she prays for to long more for God obtains a good report. We ought to tell people that they can be able to pray for themselves and receive the same miracles we receive when we pray!

Pray as you show them what to do. Encourage them. Disciple them. Share with them the scriptures! Water them. Let God have his way. The Spirit will help. Jesus will appear as the true Mediator (Why? He won’t get nagged at all by who approaches Him)

Dom Augustine Baker, writes, “In a
word, he is only God’s usher, and must lead souls in God’s way, and not his own.”
His direction is simply and clearly to lead us to our real Director. He is the means of God to open the path to the inward teaching of the Holy Spirit

That’s an excerpt from the Book Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster which I believe comes in handy for our theme today.

The flesh can sniff idolization. The need to feel special, as though pious. Problem with that is, men tend to lean unto their own understanding and not trust in God with all their hearts…

When they do, they come up with golden calfs, and all manner of gods, which very gods end up destroying them.

Humans were not designed to be glorified unless if their spirits were born again. When they get born again, God becomes one spirit with them. (1 Cor 6:17) When he does, He gives them the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16)..which can help them comprehend glory and when it’s tending to idolization.

Glory minus the full revelation of it, tends to idolization. And no one will understand fully the glory God gives them, if He Himself has not helped them understand it! For it’s His, and so if He’s giving it, He has to install it fully in their systems…and give manuals of wisdom to help them discern when the flesh might try to take advantage of it!

I also strongly advise, that if God hasn’t revealed it to you yet that you can bless, you can pray saying ‘The Lord bless you (and then you mention in what way…)’ I can also pray like that depending on how the Spirit gives me utterance and leads. This gets the focus off of ourselves and unto God!

Therefore, may God open your eyes if you were beginning to idolize someone. May He rebuke you if you were selfish and stood in the way of His relationship with one of His children, and may He give you the joy that comes to Him when you tell your disciples that there’s more in Him as you continue pointing them to Him!

…..Amen
