Charity begins at home, and so does excellence!
Colossians 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
During supper times, I could be best portrayed by that man you see in the picture! I could gather my emotions and hunger and complain with roars in my heart!
I’d go like, ‘What’s taking the food so long?’ At my Aunty’s the girls are left with all the cooking. But still, one could have cooked during lunch (while most extended family members were out at work) and now all 8 members are present…
It was until I realized my cousin needed a hand! She’d be struggling quietly. Who knows, may be she got cut or burnt by a hot saucepan…or the coal itself! But then she has to serve…us who are pretending to be watching the 9pm news!
Being excellent begins by crossing over to the helping side! It begins when one chooses to serve, instead of being served!
I got up and helped her out. The process was hectic; Getting food off fire, placing table mats, serving food into the dishes, organising & wiping plates, garnering the forks and spoons, serving water or soda or juice, and calling people to eat!
That takes altogether at least 30 minutes! Since I began helping, it takes about 7 minutes now! As I help out, my hunger surge is surpressed by the excellent spirit! I ensure all is perfect!
My cousins sometimes when stressed, (in fact most times) show it in their output! Forexample, we have 3 sets of table mats, red, purple, and yellow! 7 pieces for each set, (6 seats and one in the table’s centre)
You’d find two yellow ones, one red and two purple ones at dinner time! How about the other 2 seats? How about being organized? I ensure I place all 7 in their respective colors when I decide to set the table; Why?
Colossians 3:23 Whatever may be your task, work at it heartily (from the soul), as [something done] for the Lord and not for men,
Imagine I was serving God dinner, and I brought out my ramshackled attitude & unmatching table mats!
What we do at home eventually follows us up on the way we conduct ourselves out in the world!
At home when my younger male siblings are asked to clean the house, they dry clean it. They ignore the cobwebs, the dusty TV…
They wipe the floors quick and they are out! I’m not shocked when they sometimes intentionally just wash their feet & hands when it’s bathing time! That’s the same way they clean the house…Not in detail! But I choose to go into detail! Why?
It’s because I’m mopping the house as if God had asked me to clean His own house! And He’s a King!
When you’re reporting to work, report like you’re reporting to your maker—For He’s watching! Be on time! It’s Him that’ll promote you, not your physical boss!
Remember though, that you can’t be on time at work, if you wake up late at home…if you catch meals 30 minutes later, when everyone else is done eating!
If you’re going to be excellent in one thing, be excellent in all things!
Don’t be an hour early for the interview, and an hour late for fellowship or choir practice! Do it all as into God. Imagine He’s the interviewer, and also the fellowship facilitator!
Don’t look your best for the Saturday party and come with hangover mode smeared across your face on Sunday morning!
When you speak on social media, don’t use the attention seekers’ language…or pictures, stick to your good morals! Don’t be a saint in person and then a snake on air…
If you are the type that throws trash anywhere, and not in a proper trash can, you must be one of those who kept dirty plates with dried kikomando under their beds while at hostel!
And still that shows a sign of your un-nurtured self concerning sanitation…which is taught back at home! Strive to be the best at what you do, and promotion will easily come!
David must have been a good music player that when Saul needed an instrumentalist, a man said, There’s this David who always plays out there in the fields while shepherding.
That man was listening… & watching… God is listening & watching you as well. He’ll send the right people for your promoting, if you continue in consistency!
Know when to type using formal English, know when to use slang and when not to, greet your parents & guardians daily & welcome them back from work, help with work around, be on time, do not skip or shorten your time with God (if you promised him your 6am-7:30, let it be) help set the table, read your bible, dress best, talk nicely on phone…
….and do not worry on how you’ll do this best…His spirit is in you, and it brings out excellence in all you do & also pushes you to do your best even in things as small as mopping the house!
JUST DO EVERYTHING AS IF YOU WERE DOING IT FOR GOD!
Say this out loud;
I’m Excellent!
